Hi everyone: Do you think it is better to use the EOC questions from CFAI in conjunction with my Schewser readings now or use them as a review when I go through Scheswer Video CDs? To give everyone a better idea I am planning on doing only schewser notes then hitting the Schewser CD and Qbank before starting on exam practice in May. But I will do the EOC Questions from CFAI Curriculum and just wondering if they would be more useful alongside the main reading or once I am doing a review ? Thanks NVC
I think it would be best to do them twice. Once as you go through the readings, then again on review. I did this for Level II and I thought I benefitted quite a bit come test day. Doing the same thing for Level III so far.
yeah, i’d say get on the eoc questions very early, and the test questions earlier than you think you should. especially if you’re repeating (as you should somewhat know the material already)… and do them twice. you won’t remember many of them the second time anyway.
I would do them now. For FI, Derivatives, Risk, GIPS, Ethics you will see many EOC referring directly to the course material. No need to overwhelm yourself with that material in the end. I would also try to go the in-chapter examples, if possible. While this is your choice, I did not do any QBank (don’t even know what that is). I would rather do EOC 2-3 times. When I did not pass L3 the first time, it was precisely for that reason. If you ask me, for Derivatives, Risk, GIPS, FI, Equity, Economics, Ethics, there is no need to go anywhere, but EOC & In-Chapter examples.
Van, I agree with the others. Doing the questions now will slow your progress a bit, but they’ll help you learn the material more thoroughly on your first pass, hopefully making your review process run much more smoothly. If you’re looking for opportunities to save time, consider dropping Q-Bank altogether. Think back on your experience in 2009, was Q-Bank valuable enough? I think early exposure to the CFAI EOC and AM guideline answers are most valuable, with Schweser EOC being a nice warmup. I really liked Q-Bank for LI and a bit for LII but was disappointed for LIII. Anyway, it’s your call. Another potential time saver: don’t bother practicing the PM session. You know that format cold from LII and that time could be used for reviewing material or focusing even further on the AM session. On a side- and hopefully motivational note, I just picked up my charter this morning from the frame shop. Looks really sharp. I’m looking forward to congratulating you in August.
I don’t think I started hitting EOC questions until early spring last year. Definitely not until after reading CFAI / Schweser once through. This will probably be the most challenging part of your entire study regimen. Probably shouldn’t hit it until you have a solid grasp on the material (in general). But I think you were at that point one year ago… so I’d say F-__ it and start hitting them now. For me, the EOC questions were where everything really sunk in.
i agree with mcleod 81. i do think you have to hit the EOC questions before you feel like you’ve completed mastered the material… look at the Q’s the first time as part of the learning. the second time as a check/review.
Thanks Guys, I think what I will do is once I finish Schewser book 1, I will go back and revisit the EOC Q. from CFAI for those topics and then from here on use them in conjunction with my readings to hammer home the material and later in May go through them again. Thanks again for your input guys…
I am planning to do Schweser->CFAI (w/o EOCQ)->EOCQ->Exams->Finale!
That’s the plan for me. First read everything from Schweser once and on my second go - start doing EOC questions. Come April - Start taking tests one more time all EOCs
I was planning on doing the EOC on my first pass but its slowing me down too much. So I am going to do my first pass with other questions and then a 2nd pass and do them twice then when I know the material better. last time I ran out of time so I figure this way i wont.
The EOC questions do put a screeching halt to the progress, but I think they will be worth it in the end. I have already done one pass without the questions, and now I am doing Schweser and the EOC questions. It is going a lot slower this round.
