EOCs vs Real Exam

Hello,

Can anybody tell me how difficult is the actual exam compared with the CFA EOCs and practice test (CFA online site).

Thanks!!

From a retaker’s (band 10) perspective the style in the TTs and the EOCs and CFAI mocks is exactly the style of the exam. Morning seems deceptively easy to many people but there will be many curve balls thrown at you which needs high level concentration u might get an answer based on your working but just may have missed one simple thing (Practice can prevent this). Afternoon is where you pass/fail and that is where they can ask you the most random thing you last read first week of May so u would have to think hard. I found afternoon to have more qualitative questions which are not a walk over as well. Overall 50% of the exam is doable and the next 10% would be hard but still doable the next 10-15% determines whether u pass or fail and the last 25% are the very difficult questions or those where u will be battling to find the correct answer or seem new but the moment u step out for lunch u will suddenly recall what u were supposed to do the issue is on practice practice and practice

what does TT stand for?

Topic tests, former practice exams?

In my experience (I passed last year, June 2017), the end of chapter questions are more representative of the exam questions than the mock exam questions. Some of the mock exam questions are hard for the wrong reasons, testing tedious or obscure details.

June 2018?

If you’re to compare any third party provider, whch one is the closest?

Thanks for The detailed answer @ashleytawanda

Hi Guys,

What should you be scoring on the CFAI mock exams and the topic questions in the candidate resources section of the website in order to feel semi confident/prepared. Would anywhere between 65-70% be a minimum you should be aiming for?

Thanks in advance,

Alek

65-70% be a minimum you should be aiming for? Yes

The exam is clear, orderly, and tests your knowledge and analytical abilities. There is no leading questions, hidden data or excessive steps of calculations. The time is fair enough and the difficulty apparently lower than the mock exams, EOCs and probably third party providers’ mocks.

However, if you encounter something you don’t know well, you will just guess the correct answer (gamble). My recommendation is to READ EVERYTHING. Also try to remember all formulas, even the stupid ones. They can come.

…and in addition, whatever can wrong will go wrong. Better to be full ready.

Full disclosure: I prepared using AdaptPrep and I work there now. I used our material (AdaptPrep) as well as Schweser’s content in its printed material. I ended up using mostly our AdaptPrep material and the CFA content, which was more than sufficient to pass. Even though Schweser is a competitor, I did use the Schweser notes a bit, which I acknowledge are quite good. I didn’t use the Schweser item sets very much, which I thought were alright, but not necessarily as useful as the ones from my other sources (CFAI and AdaptPrep).

My apologies–I meant June 2017.
