Equity Analyst Compensation in Toronto

Hi all, I was just wondering what is the average compensation for an entry level equity analyst position in Toronto with one of the Big Banks. The position requires Undergrad in Finance, enrolled in CFA program, CSC, Knowledge of global markets, bloomberg, etc. In terms of experience, I think it was less then 1 year. Maybe a new grad position…Any thoughts would be helpful.

Post the official job position, and I will tell you. You won’t be named “equity analyst” 1 year out of college, unless you’d be selling your research to high-school kids.

enough to get a dingy apt in Scarbrough and pay your TTC fare, and maybe go see Sundin and the Leafs get beat once a year…

The listing has been taken down. It is with CIBC. and the official position title is Global Equity Business Analayst. I can only recall the details I stated above from the posting.

business analyst != equity analyst

Obviously there is a dispairity between the two terms. Lets get down to the #'s though. Is 42-45 K aiming too high? I dont think this position is FO material, but its definatley a step up from some type of Fund Accountant position.

Business Analyst: project work, improving processes, gathering requirements, IT stuff, NOT equity research.

this is about as far from a FO position you can get

btw, 42k-45k in TO will get you exactly what CFA_Halifax mentionned - sucks

lol whats wrong with you 42-45 you can live comfortably

IMHO 42-45 sucks in the grand scheme, but I wouldn’t be expecting a lot more based on the job title. Really everything is about upward mobility.

BA or Business Analyst jobs pay in the range of 45-75k depending on your exp. As a Junior BA you would get paid in 45-55 range…and BA job has nothing to do with Equity Research…it is very much IT, project, and process analysis…I am doing a contract work for a finance IT co. as a BA right now, so I know what I am talking about… PS: You do not want to work for CIBC, trust me on that…

^^Agreed with N.Van… the range is dead on and so is the advice to stay away from CIBC.

I graduated last year in October and my first job out I was making 35 K and still am. I am with State Street. For a 5-10 K jump in salary, is it worth taking an interview for, even if it is with CIBC? Right now I think so.

SS…oh my. Yes, anything is better than that judging from what has been said about them on here and from some of my colleaugues at work. Are you an FA paulllly??

whats the big deal about CIBC being a bad place to work ?

No I am ot an FA. But I do have the same pay as an FA, better hours though. Yes I do live at home and Im glad I do. I get to pay off my OSAP next month. Debt free baby!
