ERISA

Are Defined-Contribution Pension Plans also regulated by ERISA?

I don’t think so as DC plans the investor is responsible for choosing an allocation and investment vehicles while in a DB the plan sponsor bears risk and is goverened by ERISA as a result. right?

I follow your logic, but check out pg. 313 CFAI Book 2. It mentions ERISA under DC-Plans.

Yes I believe they are but I believe all they have to do is provide at least 3 investment options that provide diversificatioin to be in compliance. I can be totally off but I think that’s it for DC plans.

ERISA is all over every aspect of defined contribution plans. Plan trustees have all the same fiduciary responsibilities of DB plan fiduciaries (although choosing a mutual fund company helps a lot).

This is great Joey, I like your answer. Thank you!
