ERP - Energy Risk Professional

I am very interested in the energy industry, particularly O&G. Since I don’t have a technical background and most of the jobs in the industry require engineering or some science degree, obviously my finance background isn’t valued much. I was on the GARP website and came across this certification. It’s also endorsed by the API (American Petroleum Institute). Just wondering for you guys here who are into FRM or the risk management industry, how much is ERP valued/recognized? I am currently working with a start-up, but my future goal is to be in the energy industry. My plan is to be continue working with the start-up and then few years down (3-4), apply for an energy MBA program. I know many schools have started specializing in it. So, I am guessing the ERP would stand out on my applications? Your comments will be highly appreciated. TIA.

Hello?

I guess if you are interested in this sector, you might try this designation. But never forget the purpose of getting the designation always contains two aspects:knowledge obtaining;recognition of achievement. ERP may give you enough knowledge in O&G but in terms of global recognition,it is pretty weak - I don’t think lots of people even know about FRM. But sometimes, these designations might only be highly regarded within the industry. So you might want to get some energy guys to offer their opinions.

What is the work experience requirements to earn the ERM ? anybody have an clue ? and how many parts are there to this program?

ERM was introduced one or two years ago. So you can count on it that almost nobody knows about it. In a few years it can be very big and important, but it can also forgotten.
