Hi there. I am a first time CFA test taker. I am planning to take Exam I in 6 months to a year. So far I have put in approximately 10-15 hours on the 1st to 2nd chapters of ethics. No matter how many times I go through ethics reading 2, I am still shaky on the practice problems and examples. The readings are so big I’m not sure how to memorize them to be able to apply them to the practice problems and examples. How much time did you spend reviewing the required readings, and did you not stop until you memorized them sufficiently?
I am essentially up to my limit on how long I can spend on this chapter and am being forced to move on. But I am scared of moving on with a shaky understanding of the chapter and am not if this is how the typical CFA candidate is or not after finishing this. I was under the impression that to have the best chance of passing the exam it was necessary to have every chapter solidly down. I just don’t see how you do it with these books.
bruh hang in there u can do anything u put ur mind to. One of my favorite quotes is by rapper master P “You gotta be bout it bout it, cuz im bout it bout it.” You probs ain’t gonna get it right off da bat, u gotta keep at it and keep studyin. Don’t sleep on gips either. bruh wit my college review class, kaplan scwheser, q bank, allen cfa, i did bout 300-400 hours on top of workin 3rd shift m-f, feel me? u kinda trippin a lil, you can do it brah, just go to quantive methods and den go back to ethics here and there. my fave quote from a profeser was “Just becuz YOU think its right, doesn’t mean it right to the cfa”. So understand the way cfa operates dey ethics. u got this brotha, lemme know if u need more help.

Oh my friend. I’m so happy when I read someone not claiming they spent just a couple of weeks learning because all Level I is just a rehash of university.
Move on, don’t bother with Ethics, leave it to the end and when you come to it do as many practices as possible, then gradually you will get a grip. I’m not sure what you mean by memorizing, because you don’t have to memorize the standards but yes you have to be able to decide if something is a violation of one or more standards.
If you have the “appropriate” background, you still may be able to finish all other 9 topics in a month or so and have plenty of time for ethics.
(Sorry if I’m a bit bitter because I’m afraid I failed for the 2nd time last week).
