Ethics is getting confusing??????

A CFA Institute member works for Secure Securities, Inc., and plays rugby on the firm’s rugby team. Secure Securities’ team recently played the team of a rival firm. During the game, a fight broke out and the CFA Institute member was the instigator, but no one was seriously hurt. Is this a violation of I(A) concerning maintaining knowledge and complying with laws, rules, and regulations? A) Yes, because the member could have hurt someone in the fight. B) Yes, because the member is bound by the Code of Ethics. C) No, because a fight at a rugby game is not a professional activity. D) No, because no one was seriously hurt.

Your answer: B was incorrect. The correct answer was C) No, because a fight at a rugby game is not a professional activity. Standard I(A) covers members’ professional activity only. Violations outside professional activity that involve fraud, theft or deceit would potentially be violations. ****************************************************************** What the heck? We just saw itfaster post the same question and the answer was B. I just took an ethics test and got it wrong. :frowning:

I would say C) if not then D). It better not be A) or B).

I just saw the answer, my reasoning was that it doesn’t affect the quality of financial services you can offer

mwvt9 on the schweser videos they are saying that more and more cfai are trying to separate professional conduct from personal free time activities… i picked c but now I am not so sure anymore…

Did you guys see itfaster’s thread this morning? It gives the exact opposite answer and it is the same question!

This is the question from itfaster’s thread this morning: A CFA Institute member works for Secure Securities, Inc., and plays rugby on the firms rugby team. Secure Securities team recently played the team of a rival firm. He/she put the answer as B.

I just saw it, he should double check, notice he didn’t paste the explanation. C makes more sense to me.

I would had done a C for this too. Seems logical.

When has logic ever had anything to do with ethics?

This was my reasoning: B. Code of ethics: Act with integrity, competence, diligence, respect, and in an ethical manner with the public, client, prospective clients, employers, employees, COLLEGUES in the investment profession, and other participants in global capital markets. It is a violation of I(A) because you have to know and comply with the law (which includes the code and standards). I am really confused now.

mwvt9… your thinking is correct.they do have to act in an ethical manner with public, client, propective clients, employers, employees, COLLEAGUES etc… but in professional situation…/ environment not otherwise…not always… think about it… that’s like saying…if analyst 1 finds out that analyst 2 is messing around with analyst 1’s significant other…and analyst 1 decides to beat up analyst 2…is that a violation of the standards??

WTH, did itfaster post the wrong answer then?

Beats me.

i’m doing surprisingly crappy on ethics this year…

I am going with C as well. As it is not a professional activity, that is my reasoning anyway. anyone know the right answer? This level 2 is one hell of mind f**K!!

I would still keep B as my answer. My reasoning for B was as follows: CFA member is playing rugby on the firms`s rugby team. This is a social event organised by the office so still have to abide by code of ethics. He is representing the company. If the team had nothing to do with the company then i would go for C. What is the question ID please?

C) No, because a fight at a rugby game is not a professional activity.

Question was 21 I think. I have no problem with C being the answer, but that directly contridicts what someone else posted this morning (answer was B when they posted).

the number is a four digit.
