Excel - overlay bell curve on histogram

Have spent awhile searching for the answer online but the methods I have tried have thus far been unsuccessful, does anyone know how to do this in Excel 2007? I can create two series that share the same x-axis and plot nicely as line graphs, but when I change one series to a column graph it throws the scale off. For a column chart, Excel only lets you enter a single series value rather than series(x) and series (y) values. I have all the required data (fund return dispersion for the bar graph, and mean and stdev for normal curve), I’m just struggling to get the formatting in Excel to produce the desired output. Any input would be appreciated- thanks.

Have you tried clicking the option where you can plot one of the series’ y-axis on the right (a secondary axis)? Meaning one of the series’ y-axis values are on the left and the other series is on the right, all while being on the same graph. I’m not in front of Excel right now, but I believe there’s a button called “plot on secondary axis” or something to that effect.

Yes, when I choose to plot on the secondary axis, my line graph disappears. Though I shouldn’t need a secondary y-axis because both graphs use the same vertical scale. Currently, I have it so that I can see both the line graph and the bar graph at the same time, but for some reason the line graph is plotting as a straight vertical line near the origin even though the x-axis value should have it perfectly aligned with the bar chart.

can you copy and paste your data set and I can take a look?

If you email your spreadsheet to me I can probably get it to work. jerseyguy1996@yahoo.com
