Excel Poll: '03 or '07?

What are you using at work? Any plans to switch to 07?

'03 by a long shot.

07

I suppose some products there is always a need to innovate in order for consumers to continue to buy the new product. But the functionality of Excel I think has reached a ceiling for the everyday user.

07, took some getting used to but now that I am familiar with it I like it more than 03, because it allows for some data crunching that i could not do before in 03. Conditional formatting adds a some nice aesthetic elements.

Currently using 03 at work and 07 at home. Hoping the switch to 07 comes soon at work.

I think 07 has a few advantages but the formatting is enough different that you spend a couple of weeks looking for stuff. That’s enough of a pain in the butt to outweigh any benefits in the short run. In the long run, MSFT has us all by the short hairs and you’ll end up swtching anyway.

Don’t have it yet on my PC, but have used co-workers. I’m sure I’ll switch at some point. Don’t know why they found it necessary to create what amounted to a different dimension with their new toolbar. I’m sure there’s a lot more new features, but the three ones I found best so far are: 1. The autofilter functions like the filter on a pivot table. 2. There’s more than a 3-level sort. 3. There’s an “undo save” button.

Not worth £178 of hard-earned then.

I use 07 @ home and 03 at work as well. It’s very nice that they let me use the '03 shortcuts, but if I don’t know it off-hand, then it takes me forever to find what I need (usually involves doing a Help Search).

in my experience, 07 is garbage with larger sheets. We run several sheets at work that require 07 due to data restrictions (too many rows). They all run wayyyyy slower. Maybe that’s a product of not enough memory though - what do they recommend? 2? or 4?

03 myself. I actually used '07 on a MacBook Pro running windows in a partition and its blazing fast. Don’t like the ribbons in 07. Dont know what they had to change the interface to improve data handling. JoeyDVivre’s right. MSFT got us and we will all have to switch in a 1-2 years.

C-Net offers a download that converts the excel 07 toolbar to 03. The link is below. http://www.download.com/Classic-Menu-for-Excel-2007/3000-2077_4-10637173.html?tag=txt.1 It’s not free however. Will set you back 16 bucks.

Not quite, but you’d get one. Remember Apple and Microsoft use the $1 = £1 conversion rate. It’s even cheaper at EDU prices. But I’m neither a student nor an OEM. To upgrade current machines, that’s the price (if you are stupid enough to pay it.)
