We had a challenge like this in fifth grade I think. I remember going through the listings in teh newspaper, looking through the bluechips. Turns out the way to go was to pick penny stocks because it was winner take all (risk was not a consideration). Needless to say I lost. That was my first lesson in the stock market: understand the goal.

It pays to take massive risk in such contests with short time frames.
