This is harsh. I’m not religious… but I don’t just assume that those who are religious are “fucked in the head”. If you have the tolerance to skim the Christian references he is making some of the same points that TF has been making … and you guys have been eating it up under that context.
I think the bottom line is this conversation is getting its wires mixed talking about poverty and the rewards of minimalism. They are indeed two separate topics.
KMD - Never said he was screwed up in the head due to religion, hes basically always been that way since ive been here. He gets intense interest in something, changes his life on a whim, then gets bored and on to another in a few months.
That’s not what bchad would have wanted. He would have wanted well-constructed posts with a clearly defined thesis followed by body paragraphs each with a bold topic statement, finally ending in a conclusion with no tl;dr. That’s the way bchad rolled. He wrote long posts. Posts so long many have gone unread to this day because no one has the attention span to get through them. He could effortlessly discuss complex economic issues using metaphors involving salsa dancing and his past exotic girlfriends. Though profound, these parables were often lost in a gigantic wall of text. I assume he knew what he was talking about, but will we ever know? Most can’t get through more than four lines of text. But boy how he could write. Posts as long as the screen and then some. Did we need a 750 word post asking if anyone wanted to get together for an NYC meet-up? Probably not because I think only numi showed up. Then again can you really explain why alpha has to equal zero in less than 1,000 words? Well, yes, I think you can, but damn it! He was thorough. And you have to admire the conviction he had in his words. A man that could sport a full, well-groomed beard with a cardigan and corduroy pants can do just about anything. A man that had a degree in Physics and a PhD in Economics but dedicated his time to educating others is a man that can type a wall of text on my screen any day. Teaching in person at Columbia or teaching a class room full of bright-eyed L1 candidates, bchad was at home making the difficult easy to understand. He didn’t talk about it much here, but he dedicated much of his time to the economics behind environmental issues. I don’t even know what that means but I’m sure there’s a very long post on some forum, maybe even this one, describing it. I’m also sure I would have disagreed with him, at least at first. He had a knack for debating without getting emotional…most of the time. And if you can do that well, you have a chance to educate people that share different beliefs. He even managed to change my mind once or twice in nearly a decade of discussions. Even before he was a mod/Boardmember he had the forum’s best interests at heart. He wanted to see this as not just a place where CFA candidates come for some help understanding LOS. He wanted AF to be a place where some of us could hang out and discuss off-topic subjects like no-fap and blowing out your colon. He recognized the value of such posts in an otherwise formal, or rather, educational setting. He was an advocate for the Investments forum when many didn’t see the value. I’m not sure what his thoughts were on the Feeback Forum. His participation there was sporadic which is a shame because it’s the best god damn forum on AF. He crushed Blake like the weasel he was after Blake posted his real name here. He gave CvM multiple chances and advocated for tolerance before it became obvious there was only one course of action. And he wrote really, really long posts. His stand-up career was short but you have to admire the balls it took him to invite AFers to come watch him. I don’t know this for a fact, but I imagine he had nimble fingers. Strong but sensual. Able to type a treatise in under five minutes or deftly unsnap an unconventional bra made in some small eastern european country off a woman from southeast asia. Whatever his beliefs in god may have been, I’m sure he probably wrote about them here. I can’t say for certain but I believe he fell into the weak agnostic category. If that’s the case, and if he was the type of person off AF as he was on, I’m sure his lack of faith won’t keep him from the pearly gates should they exist. He was a good dude and in the end, good people are rewarded. So what’s my thesis, where are my topic sentences, and is there going to be a conclusion? Nope. I wrote this rambling wall of text in honor of bchad and in the exact opposite way he would have, because I know no other way of paying tribute.
STL taking on the ghost of bchad to compose that masterpiece. I wonder if bchad is at the gates with STL’s presence quoting American Pyscho quotes to the holy father.
This is good to hear, a ton of people dont drink enough water it shocks me! My mother doesnt like the taste of water (which i didnt know was a thing) but I find it cool and refreshing. Problem is I worry I may be over hydrating, which I believe can also be bad.
i’m still contemplating which persona i will assume when i spin out of control and have no cares about my AF identity. evangelical guy, indian guy and hashtag guy seem to be well represented. maybe i could assume the likeness of pee wee herman or something. thoughts?
Ironically, authentic Canadian guy seems to be missing. Most Canadians here seem to be swerving heavily into dickhead category to compensate for their complex.
