Fear of living in poverty

Only if you’re a monk and learn kung fu.

I’ve never taken on poverty and have no desire to do so, so I haven’t given any real thought to what it means. There is value to pride though, so I don’t know that giving it up is a good thing unless you mean giving up excessive pride.

“But can we agree that taking on poverty means giving up pride and taking on humility.”

I don’t think so… I can easily see some people spewing something about how their beliefs have just transcended material means or something.

Its that your spiel comes off a lot like the “voluntourism” where white people go to africa for safari, take a few pictures of themselves giving crap to the locals and leave feeling like they did great work.

Its entirely likely I am wrong, its just the way you come off especially on this thread. But you do come off as a silver spoon, do whatever the hell you want, “being poor is a wonderful experience” type deal. Certainly learning to live with less, and a more simple life can be rewarding and helpful, but there are more eloquent ways to put it that dont mock the plight of billions on this planet.

My favorite are the thousands of Christian 12 year olds that go on mission trips to build houses in Guatamala or wherever every summer. Like the best way to help impoverished families is to spend thousands flying your lily white useless kids to a third world country to livestream versus giving that money to some form of local assistance or working at a soup kitchen. All the while decrying American excess. But whatever, this is the world we live in.

When we are physically weak, financially weak, or some other form of weakness, our eyes our opened to God.

2 Cor 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Haha good one

Thanks for the feedback. It was probably the toughest time in my life as I had to face the truth. It was wonderful in a way and I don’t mean to say that unwanted financial poverty is going to be ‘great’ and ‘fun’, but not all things in life that are blessings are fun. It was a blessing for us that Christ suffered for us and was nailed to the cross for by his wounds we are healed. Suffering in its many forms is a blessing as we must carry our cross for ourselves and others to make our way to God.

Sorry if I dont find you quoting scripture to be a convincing argument as to why your trip wasnt just a rich white kid doing what a lot of rich white kids do. Take time off to “find themselves”, the rest of us lack that luxury.

Ok fine let’s talk about humility.

My source and spring of humility is our mother Mary, for the pride responsible for the fall of man was crushed by Mary’s humility.

She is my spiritual mother, our mother, given to all humanity when Jesus spoke to John on the cross and said ‘behold your mother.’

She is the Queen of Heaven and all humility flows through her.

Do you get punched in the face a lot? Because you just give off that vibe.

Stop it! Go back to suing people for $1. I liked that you much better than this you.

Sure, when my arms get tired of blocking my face.

Has ACE always been this religious and I’ve somehow missed it, or is this something new?

yo ACE, if you wanna minaj, Ive got a tricycle.

Well, he went from having his pretty face as his avatar to some sort of religious symbol. Either this is long-con trolling or we’ve lost p.p to the Skyfather.

A simple “yes” would have sufficed.

Hes always bordered on the more religious in the year or two I have been here. Seems he has gone a bit more jesusy than usual. Bad acid trip recently he is finally coming to terms with or something would be my guess.

Not sure which I find more amusing at this point - how full of shit ACE is, or how much people are genuinely offended and angry at him.

If he would admit he was full of shit no one would be mad at him, we would all just laugh at him. Not that I am not laughing now, just think hes screwed in the head
