If i joined a firm in january, should i expect any kind of bonus in feb when everyone else gets their bonus (the firm does pay a bonus twice a year)

no way. what the f*ck have you done in one month that justifies a payout? anwswer - as much as you think something, nothing yet. you’ll get your full bonus, the one you deserve, next february.
