As someone who used Elan Guides heavily for L1, I am disappointed to see they’re not putting out the full review set for L2 next year. Plan to do mostly CFA material study, but looking for supplemental help. Has anyone used Finquiz? Thoughts?
I used it as a supplement to Schweser Notes to cover concepts that weren’t touched upon by Schweser, in June 2010 attempt and passed the exam. In my opinion, Finquiz offered good coverage of all concepts in CFAI curriculum through thousands of practice questions covering all readings and it helped me a lot in retaining the material. I will recommend it if you want to cover all concepts because there are many areas where u can not solely rely on Schweser such as Economics, Equity, Portfolio Management, Fixed Income and especially, Financial Reporting & Analysis. It is a good alternative to reading huge volumes of CFAI curriculum which takes a lot of time to read and is very difficult to recall. I found it very useful because it helped me retain the material and a few concepts that were left out by Schweser but included Finquiz were tested in the final exam. So, I had a very pleasant experience and I’m looking forward to used it for L3 prep as well. U can always contact me regarding any help in L2 prep. Cheers!
anyone know if this guy is marketing of finquiz is really good ? I did schweser for L2 and did the cfa text books somewhat , I know I need somehtign additional like questions/notes to get through in 2011
I’m curious about finquiz as well… anybody use this in the past?
I’m new to this forum. I passed L1 in Dec 2009 and passed L2 in June 2010. I’ve already told my approach, I didn’t have enough time to I rely on Schweser as my primary source of preparations and found it very useful. And for practice I will recommend to use as many CFAI questions as possible. I used QBank, but I wasn’t satisfied at all so I used Finquiz because it is relatively cheaper and offer good coverage of all concepts. Also they were offering to purchase questions LOS wise, so I just purchased those LOS where I had problems in understanding. Whatever, source you use just remember that practice is the key to success in CFA exams. And your primary focus for practice should be CFAI questions, do as many of them as possible.
I failed level 2 Band 10 and used entirely Schweser… retaking using only CFAI texts and EOC questions. But I like being drilled with questions to keep concepts fresh. Schwesers qbank for level II was terrible I thought so maybe I will try Fin Quiz as you did, for those LOS that I need to brush up on. Thanks!
agreed LincolnLogs. Schweser Qbank was terrible. Anyone have better luck with Passmaster ? Band 10 for this one really sucks.
I’m debating between FinQuiz and AnalystNotes.
Meazza, I will suggest that first you attempt CFAI questions and then check out sample questions on both websites. One approach is to initially purchase practice questions just for those readings where you find any problem rather than buying the whole bundle and dealing with quality issues afterwards. Your first purchase will enable you to judge the quality of material and you can then buy the whole package to save cost. I did the same and bought practice questions LOS wise. Try judging the quality on the basis of coverage of curriculum concepts.
Thanks for the insight night-owl. I’ll take the selective LOS purchase approach. Good luck to all!
Hey night-owl, I actually have been doing the EOC questions and I will most likely do them again. Regarding purchasing “problematic” LOS’, I think I will do questions from all because I want to be able to know everything with my eyes closed. The only thing I won’t do twice is re-read the books, except for maybe sections I feel weak in. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!
On the money Night-owl…but problem is for the L2 first timers , they don’t necessarily have the time to go through that process plus sometime you learn as you do the question and its not easy to understand the kind of question cfai asks until you see the mocks. I had taken analyst notes for L1 when I cleared it in the first attempt and did not like it. Schweser did it for me. L2 , schweser sucked. Will have to see finiquiz and evaluate it based on the free section.
