We’re conditioned to be fearful particularly during times when our leader is not liked by the media. It’s going to be ok. There have been real challenges (some existential) throughout US history. The enemy is fear.
Combine this thread with your all-hours screen habit and it looks like this may be you birdman:
i know people throw around the phrase ‘seek help’ but seriously you might want to evaluate whether you’re dealing with the state of the world in the healthiest way. I’m pulling for you brother, love ya -cw

Regarding Trump not expecting to win - wait, wasn’t this really obvious from the first day? Yes, he ran as a publicity stunt. However, he ended up offering US voters a product that they wanted but no one thought about: a rejection of the political establishment and an actual way to force politicians to address what voters want, and not just to continue to rotate and enrich people in their inbred circles. Just like the stock market has to correct if it is mispriced, the trajectory of US politics had steered far away from what people want, and a candidate like Trump forces the parties to offer better packages in the future.
Also, the Republicans did address median voter issues through the tax bill. They cut taxes for a vast majority of Americans, reduced anti business regulations (albeit at environmental or other costs), boosted economic growth through wealth effect, and likely increased wages by cutting corporation taxes. On average, Americans will receive better paychecks in 2018 than in 2017. In other words, for once, they got exactly what they wanted.
This is a direct response to the economic concerns expressed by American voters. It would be quite counterproductive to most Americans if we were to simply subsidize coal miners or auto workers; they are a tiny minority of the population anyway. A broad stimulus affecting most Americans is a better policy.
It’s unfortunate that such legislation could not pass in a bipartisan way, but this is not just a conservative change. Obama wanted also wanted to enact a corporate tax cut - a sensible, overdue reform - but his proposals were blocked by Congress. The political environment is toxic and meaningful reforms now have a good chance of passing only under special circumstances, but this does not mean that those reforms do not address voter concerns.
Look guys/gals, expecting to be president or not, planning to be president or not, our people called Trump to serve his country and he stepped forward and took the oath.
It is no different than stepping up to serve in the military. Some volunteer, others are called. But, the important thing is to serve when called and give your best. That’s all we can ask and all we can hope for. In ourselves and in our leaders.
i read the article on new york magazine. its very funny but to me its pretty fake.
Birdman, you’re starting to sound like those right wingers who claimed Obama was Kenyan and it would only be a matter of time before he was ousted from office for not being a natural born citizen. Speaking of which, I wonder if Turd still believes this conspiracy theory, even though his boy Trump capitulated on it (although didn’t he renege the capitulation after? who knows, hard to keep track these days).
Do you think the polls stating that the majority of Americans disapproved of the bill were fake? Or people were just misinformed leading them to disapprove?
They were misinformed or ignorant. Most Americans did not quantify the contents of the bill and did not understand its effects on their personal situation. Most did not realize that their taxes would decrease.
It’s because of selective and bias reporting by the media in order to achieve an agenda.
Maybe.
It’d be hard to quantify but I have to think some people were upset with a variety of other things. How the bill was written by lobbyists and rammed through at warp speed with no hearings. Maybe some folks were able to see that even though they’d get a tax decrease, the resulting slashes to “entitlements” as a result of the 1T+ increase to the deficit might not make it worth it in the long run. Maybe some people just resent the plutocracy enough that even though their personal situation is marginally improving, they don’t enjoy seeing the rich get much richer. It’s possible others were simply annoyed that a number of Republicans admitted to supporting this bill because their donors would close their wallets if they didn’t. All the swampy stuff that was reportedly going to be drained…
There seems to be a lot of negative feedback in the past few weeks towards the companies that gave $1,000 year end bonuses to their employees ostensibly in thanks to the tax bill. Why? I think because people are able to see through this as corporate PR. Everyone here knows a one time bonus cannot compare to job growth and wage increases. Will the later definitively happen?

*shrug*
i hope this helps liberals smarten up to the fact that congress’s #1 priority is screwing every american, not just republicans or democrats. the same (or worse) tactics were used to ram through the wildly unpopular Ocare. Wake up people, we have a common enemy.
i can quanitfy if employees are getting their fair shake. t 20b pre tax income.
at 35% thats 6.6b. at 22% thats 4.4b. so 2.2b tax savings per year.
they are giving a one time 1k bonus to 200k people. that’s $200m. so roughly 10% is going to wages, the other 90%, if i had to guess! DIVIDENDS and sharebuybacks
just remember the old saying “boss gets a dollar, i get a dime, thats why i poop in company time” so investors should get the bulk of the profits not the employees! IMO!
About a quarter of the way through and honestly I don’t think it puts Trump in that bad of a light. The direct quotes attributed to him are rambling, narcissistic, half-truths, but for the most part they’re pretty innocuous and in no way surprising if you’ve been half awake for the last 2 years. The rest is just tabloid-type stuff – like does anyone really care if Melania wasn’t happy with the election results?
The author appears to be far more critical of Bannon and surprisingly, the media, than DJT. Plenty more to go, but starting to lose interest.
