Hi all, wondering if anyone has started to take mock exams and how they have been going. I took my first mock this weekend and got a 66.7%. I’m not sure how to feel about a score in the mid 60’s considering i started studying several months ago…and this isnt my first go at the Level II beast. Anyways, i’m hoping that with some consistent practice i can raise that score by 10% within the next 8 weeks. How’s everyone else faring?
Typically anything above 70% consistently and you’re pretty solid. I haven’t taken any mocks yet… I’m almost hesitant to because I don’t have many options to choose from when doing the mocks. Which mock did you take?
yea, i’m hoping to be able to move into the 70s range. i used the schweser mock exam #1, came with the schweser review package i bought. the CFAI should have a couple of mocks (which are probably the most important ones) and you might be able to find past years’ mocks online, but that’s my speculation. good luck!
Did you take the whole exam or just the AM section. I haven’t taken one yet, but I’m thinking this weekend. I might just do half, then check it, then do the other half. And do full ones closer to the exam.
This is what I did for my first mock and what I plan on doing in the future. Just took the AM section and checked it afterwards. I wanted to get a feel of my progress so far. Planning on taking the PM section this weekend.
In L1 I starting doing mocks about this time but for L2 I’m instead going through Schweser’s for a 2nd read through (quicker this time), doing about 20-30 Q’s per reading, before starting any full-length mock exams. I was during practice Q’s throughout the 1st read through also.
I’ll hopefully be able to start mocks mid-May taking one per weekend and another during the week to get a total of 7 in before exam day.
I just feel like starting the mocks now is going into an exam under prepared. I’m taking the view that this time, I’ll be prepared and just have 7 practice runs of the actual exam to fine tune. Different approach, lets hope it pays off.
Dont you just need to get around 60-65% correct on this exam? I thought it was 70% for the first exam and this was lower. If you’re scoring in the high 60’s with 2 months left, you’re good to go i’m assuming.
Am I off base here with regards to the score? I have last years mocks. Where do you get other ones from? PM me if it’s some sneaky way…haha
i understand your thinking, makes sense. for me, i’m using the mocks to get a really good idea of where i stand, what i need to work on, and trying to make the test format and test taking environment second nature. i think the mocks have helped me so far in highlighting what i need to work on. using the q bank is another way to do this, but i feel like its much less effective for me since so many of the questions are not exam level difficulty.
from what i’ve heard 60-65% won’t quite cut it. no one can say for sure, but i’ve heard that if you are in the 70’s then you should pass. there might be some wiggle room into the 60’s, but my attitude is to exceed that. i was right on the 65% borderline in my mocks before last years exam and i ended up with a band 9. not sure if i underachieved during the exam, i dont feel like i particularly did. based on that experience i want to try to exceed 70% as much as possible.
not sure about how to get older mocks, but i’m sure there is a way. for me, between this year’s and last year’s i think i have enough to keep me occupied!
Im interested in which mocks you were using as well, permabear. Mocks have been harder for me than the real thing; I wouldnt be feeling bad with multiple 65’s under my belt, especially if one was the Official mock.
i’ve used the schweser mocks and done the CFAI ones as well in the past, havent gotten around to them yet this year. i agree that 65’s are not bad, not too far off. but also sharing my experience that when you are on the border, it can easily not go your way, which was the case for me last year.
