First Time MPS is 70%?

After looking at some Band 10 fails and some Passes that were fairly similar, using the excel spreadsheet as a guide it looks like the MPS was fairly close to 70% if not exactly 70%. Even with that higher MPS the pass rate still jumped 11%. I personally think it was a combo of better prepared candidates(since December was their reference), 3 question choices and slightly easier testing. What do others think, does MPS seem like it is close to 70%? Putting my scores into excel I got 73% supposedly.

did you use 40/60/80? totally unreliable for those broad ranges…to determine MPS, you should really look for marginal passes and fails, compute minimum score for a fail and maximum for the pass (these will be papers that have most scores in the 50 to 70 ranges for each section). In between the “best” fail and “worst” pass will be your answer. but even then the ethics adjustment may mess things up.

Right I only did a few, will need more data but the person who failed had a 69% according to the excel, which if I am thinking correctly would just basically already extrapolate out an average wouldn’t it? More data is needed I agree, I’ll have to do some more work.

can you share that excel document with some of us who are on this forum?

I have looked at quite a few band 10 fails this year. The one below is the closest to MPS that I could see. 40/60/80 gives 72% and applying the most conservative scores (i.e. 0%, 51% and 71%) gives 63%. Re: Band 10 Posted by: hasan12 (IP Logged) [hide posts from this user] Date: August 1, 2009 01:54PM Does it get closer than this… Level 1: Fail The table below illustrates your subject matter strengths and weaknesses. The three columns on the right are marked with asterisks to indicate your performance on each question or topic area. Multiple Choice Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 8 - - * - Corporate Finance 20 - * - - Derivatives 12 - - * - Economics 24 - - * - Equity Investments 24 - - * - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - - * - Financial Reporting & Analysis 48 - * - - Fixed Income Investments 28 - - * - Portfolio Management 12 - - * - Quantitative Methods 28 - * - Performance band of your overall score among all candidates who failed the exam: 10 Now if I’m doing it right… the 40/60/80 method. That puts me at a 72%. Kind of feel I got robbed with this score. From what I hear Retabulation is a waist of money.

40/60/80 is hardly a rule. I wouldn’t put a lot of weight on it.

WOW

Wow, two more questions and that probably would have been a pass. It’s such a guessing game with the results.

Maybe getting over 70 in one of them, he could have passed!!!

This person failed because of his/her FRA score…a friend of mine had pretty much the same result.

Agree that FRA must be in the lower bound of 50-70. But so much for Ethics adjustment.
