I am a recent University Graduate… Still Undecided on what I want to pursue in the future, Job hunting atm. I am totally open to haveing both CFA and FRM over the coming years simply to make myself marketable and have a stronger profile. I am also aware that both CFA and FRM serve different career paths… Regardless for those who have done wither or both, what do you suggest which is easier to start off with?
If you’re unemployed and genuinely interested in pursuing a finance career (whether it’s in risk or anything else), then do both FRM and CFA L1 at the saem time.
FRM teaches you a lot about how you’ll manage a risk book at a bank, not as a risk manager but even if youw ere trading head
CFA L2 is when it starts to become hard, so if you’re reasonably smart, you’ll sail through L1 of both CFA/FRM.
If the immediate need is simply to market yourself/get a job then sign up for the CFA Level 1 December 2015 exam and put your candidacy on your resume.
Pursuing both at this stage is a waste of job seeking time. Get in the door and then decide on what your want to focus on.
For an entry level position in any finance function the CFA Level 1 provides a good foundation. The FRM exams are too technical for entry level, in my opinion. It is more suited to someone who is already working in the field.
