FRM - No experience in Financial Risk or any area close to it

Hi,

I am IT professional … just have a quick question.

If I pass FRM so as to enhance my knowledge but have no experience in any area close to risk … the FRM certification says that after 5 years you need to give exam again … my question is … 5 years after clearing exam will “industry” take that exam as deprecated? In a nutshell, will it hold value after 5 years?

Thanks

Absolutely not.

The underlying risk and matematical models and calcuations will remain the same. The only part that really changes is the regulations. CFA, FRM and CAIA are all about getting you foot into the door. Having passed them means you have the understanding. It doesn’t make you a top analyst/fund manager or risk manager. Ultimately its the experience that will get you further up the ladder in terms of salary and respect.

Another thing you might want to consider. Say you passed the FRM, if you can’t find a risk job after 5 years of passing it then i don’t think itS even worth worrying about what GARP say. You can always say you passed the exam and you have the certificate to prove it.

Totally agree with the above comment that if you can not find a risk job even after 5 years, its not worth worrying…
