so guys, how was the difficulty level of the exam? was it too difficult? too easy? more quanitification? less quants? How did you do overall and what do you expect the results to be?
L1 was a MONSTER this year! Seriously. Way much harder than GARP practice exams from last years, I just can’t find the right words to tell you how surprisingly hard it was… However, L2 was a piece of cake., a joke really.
Do you mean by L1 as part 1 and by L2 as part 2?
I took FRM Part I last November and I failed - I repeated it yesterday and I can clearly compare and tell you that it was much harder this time …
i also found level 1 to be extremely tough… even for simple questions, it looked like they were trying to confuse the test takers…
You took both? If yes, would you recommend it? I know they won’t even look at P2 if you fail P1, but how much extra effort is it really (ie. in terms of prep time committed)?
Yep, went for both. Answering your question, I’d not recommend it (because of the unpleasant 2x4 hours sittings), however it’s certainly doable. Extra effort+ time you need to put in always depends on your background. I see you sat for CFA L1, so let’s say if you go for FRM P1 prior to June '13, it does save you time in prep for CFA L2 due to overlaps. Good luck!
I’m certainly going for Part 1 in November. I was only wondering whether doing both in one go was worth it, in your experience. I realize test day was not particularly entertaining for you, but I think you’ll be ecstatic if (and when) you pass.
If you don’t mind me asking, what did you prepare with?
You are spot on! I used the combo of Schweser Notes (no that great quality compared to CFA notes), Bionic Turtle ( subscribed for the pack including notes, vids, practice exams, pract. questions + the forum is priceless) and FRM Handbook + GARP practice exams. There are others on the market who publish study materials, I have no 1st hand experience in those ones. I hope it helps a bit.
Thanks!
I’ve been preparing with Schweser and BT (tier 2) for about 15 days now. I’m halfway through quant, and entertaining the idea of going for both parts in November. We’ll see.
Krisztina, how did you do?
Hey, thanks for asking. I can confirm that the project is not a Mission Impossible. I can also confirm that your assumption about the probable occurance of ecstatic feelings when certain conditions are met is also correct. I wish you the same in January!
^haha, wish I could like this. Congrats!
I would say use bionic turtle and as much of the curriculum as you can…
+1
