I think they’re still alive. If for no other reason, they’re our only point of view characters on the Wall.
As for the northern defenses and Winterfell in particular, they have Bran. He’ll probably warg into the ice dragon or something.

Personally I think they’re still alive but there were quite a few people on reddit who thought they were goners.

I’m beginning to doubt Bran’s importance as anything other than a messenger.
I thought the point of the wall was that those guys who guard it would be helpless otherwise. If they all just die, it doesn’t seem that it will change the situation that much at this point.
When are we going to see dragon vs dragon fight scene now?
Also, so much for the “three dragons heads” theory, now that one dragon died. Unless of course, Night King is revealed to be Rhaegarys Eddardeon Targaeryn-Snow, secret basterd, lost Targaeryn heir and cousin-uncle in law of Daenarys and fourth in line to the throne.

Also, did Rhaegar forget he already had a son name Aegon? Kind of an odd oversight by the writers.
Were his kids with Elia Martell ever actually named in the HBO version?
Yeah, I think so. Pretty sure the Viper said their names a few times before his head exploded. And there were a couple other times earlier in the show too, I think.
Just watched the scene where the Mountain kills Oberyn and they only say Elia’s name. The kids are only referred to as “her children”.
Maybe they weren’t named on the show. Hard to keep track. There were some “show only” people online saying they knew Rhaegar’s first son was named Aegon. Maybe they just knew from looking up stuff on Rhaegar though and not from the show.
Either way, I’m not too happy with the name. I mean, it’s pretty obvious foreshadowing considering the first Aegon was the one to conquer Westeros.
Turns out Thoros of Mir mentioned their names in Season 3.
so there is a chance that all 3 targs hook up?

el\_macca17:STL please edit your comment… can we try to keep the leaked stuff out of the thread please?
Sorry about that. I didn’t really think it was a spoiler since it didn’t happen, but better to err on the side of caution.
No worries. I kind of skimmed the comment so I didn’t take in the whole message but I’d rather not have seen it.
It seems there was some confusion on whether Beric/Tormund died - I thought it was pretty clear they were on a western section of the wall and that they survived. They could traverse the Wall and get to Castle Black likely before the NK reaches it with his forces. Which begs the question, should the NK even attack Castle Black? Given doesn’t really have to protect his flank, he could just march south to Winterfell and send a small force to Castle Black. Or he could just fly Articuno over and blitz the place just as easily. The Northern defense is in a pretty precarious position IMO. Strategic thoughts?

I think Bran is supposed to warg into Rhaegal to fight Night king on Viserion. Bran has to go to the big ass tree to get a better Wifi signal though. Meera will die to wights trying to save him while he is warged then his body will get torn up and he will either get stuck in the dragon or the dragon will die also. Just a theory of course.

Cersei miscarries, which will drive her into madness and eventually lead to Jaime killing her
Jon’s parents are revealed
The Night’s King, aboard his trusty new ice dragon, brings winter directly to King’s Landing
Miscarriage didn’t happen, so technically wrong. Think this will still happen though.
Correct
Partially correct. He rode his new dragon and it did start snowing in King’s Landing, but I was thinking he might do a flyby of King’s Landing.
Jon’s parents were already revealed the episode before. Why did you predict it for this one?
Viewers believing/knowing that Jon is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna is not the same as the other characters knowing it. When it would be revealed on the show was what I was predicting. Most people believed/knew the Wall would come down at some point too, but no one was sure exactly when it would happen. I thought that’s how next season would open, not how this season would end.
It was revealed by the characters last episode before he left the Citadel. . . ?

Sam left the Citadel knowing, but not really caring, that Rhaegar had his marriage to Elia Martell annulled and that he married someone else. He didn’t know that the someone else was Lyanna Stark. He also didn’t know that Rhaegar had a child with that someone else. Prior to speaking with Sam, Bran didn’t know that Rhaegar and Lyanna were married. Remember, he told Sam that Jon’s real name was Jon Sand, because he was a bastard born in Dorne. So, until last night no character on the show knew that Jon/Aegon was the legitimate son of Rhaegar and Lyanna.
But… why did they name two kids Aegon? Did Lyanna F* up and forget?

Had Robert sacked kings landing and the mountain killed Elia Martel and her children yet? It does seem really odd to name both Aegon.

One theory I’ve read online is that Rhaegar was obsessed with the prophecy of the prince that was promised and that he would be Aegon Targaryen. Since his marriage to Elia was annulled, the kids from that marriage were technically b a stards, so the first Aegon would not be able to carry the Targaryen name. The fact that they specifically note that the marriage was annulled, not that he divorced her, it kind of makes sense.

The timeline isn’t exactly clear but it’s extremely unlikely even if Rhaegar’s son had his head bashed in that any word of this would have reached the Tower of Joy.
Plus this really messes with book stuff. I’m pretty convinced the show and books will have very different endings.

Agreed, which means GRRM’s statement about a bittersweet ending might not apply to the show.

This is where the show and books diverge. Rhaegar was obsessed with the prophecy but he still cared for Elia. She just couldn’t have any more kids. I think it’s very unlikely he intentionally b astardized his first two kids. Being the king (or soon to be in his mind) Rhaegar could have legitimized them anyway. Or, more likely, he would have just had two wives. The Targs did the whole b astard-then-legitimizing thing before and it pretty much ruined their house.
Edit: We can’t say b astard? That’s some pg rated stuff right there.
I suspect Tyrion has sold J.Snow down the river in his meeting with Cersei.
Nah, hes sold Dany.
How is Dany the same age or around the same age as Jon if she’s his aunt?
