the biggest issue chad sees is that he doesnt want to run a wesbite with blatant racism, thats not good for his sponsors. so some moderation is required
I enjoy the non-exam discussion though I am reserved with my posts and this is my 2nd user name. No i’m probably not anyone you know, I just decided that I wanted a more anonymous name.
my 2 cents:
Dont Feed the Trolls
if there is a troll who crosses the line posting nothing but racial & sexist slurs to the point that their threads and posts are constantly getting nuked then ban them.
doesn’t seem that complicated really. If mods are nice enough to send you 2-3 warnings and you continue to do that stuff then you more than deserve it.
I’ve decided to become your nemisis. With CvM gone, someone needed to step up. And, let’s face it. After 7-8 years, you and I have only conversed about four times.
I like the ‘Lifestyle’ type discussions that come up. It’s usually informative to bounce ideas off of people in similar life circumstances. I’ve learned a ton about cars and watches and the like reading the posts from guys like ohai, and that info is useful to me. Vasectomy support, how big to go w new cans for the wife, bidets, nutrition, workout programs, meditation, etc. this is all valuable stuff that I enjoy checking up on and i think it drives a good amount of traffic here. WC is a unique place for mid level finance guys & girls to get this kind of info. Would hate to see that get axed.
This is a bluff from Chad. Water Cooler isn’t going anywhere unless he doesn’t mind losing half the members overnight.
This place suffered 3 blows in the last half decade. It lost its brains (JDV), it lost its spirit (Nuppal) and it lost its identity (Frankie Arabia). You don’t replace these people with waiver wire pickups (RR, etc).
If we’re honest, most people end up posting in the water cooler out of habit after finishing the exams. It’s addictive and I’m sure most have thought about quitting.
Maybe there was a sense of community and some valuable discussions at some point in time, maybe it can get better with a bit more clarity on the rules but ultimately what’s the point?
After passing L3, I spent more time in the WC or Investments Forum than in the CFA section, and I really enjoyed it and think it´s sometimes interesting to read about topics apart from finance etc. But I admit also that in the last weeks/months, some posts really annoyed me.
So what about keeping the WC, but limiting the creation of topics to mods? We can have regular topics like music, sports, “what makes you glad/angry” etc… If anybody wants a new topic, he/she can request it of a mod who can be responsible for the content. That should prevent AF/WC from unwanted postings.
