Boss has everything (think several houses, cottage, cars, boat) - it’s a big anniversary at work and we wanted to get him something, but we’re all at a complete loss because he has everything. We called his wife and she said she has no clue. Ideas? He’s not a big scotch drinker, budget anywhere up to $500.
You should get a nice bound book and all write a hand written note (inside the book) with a message about what makes him great and what he has done for in your career and development.
I recommend either the Bowmore 25 or Highland Park 25 at that price point. They’re both beautiful and don’t fall into some of the traps of high age whisky. You’ll still need some water to open them up a bit.
i wasn’t going to drink tonight but im now pouring myself a whisky
10 replies and not one suggestion to go down on him? Truly AF has become a mature forum.
Anyway, it is true that it is difficult to buy him any “things”, because if guys with money want something that they can afford easily, they will just buy it. The only things he really wants are stuff that require non trivial savings like Porsches, Rolexes and such. These are not within a budget for a gift, unless you’re Trump or similar.
However, what you can buy such people are short experiences worth $500 through consumable goods. A bottle of wine or scotch are good examples. A $300 bottle of wine is a tasteful gift to anyone but those who don’t drink.
Another suggestion is a dinner to a very expensive restaurant for him and his wife. This is something he can afford himself, but might not pursue proactively. So, it is still special and memorable because you gave him an excuse to do it. What is important is that the experience will be special and linger in the person’s memory. It’s important to include a guest in such invitations, since the actual gift is a memorable time with that person. This might be more of a $1000 to $1200 gift though, depending on the place.
If you are creative, maybe you can think of something sentimental like special books or some sht like mentioned above. However, there is a risk that it will be cheesy. It’s easier to just ask some liquor store for their most expensive bottle, or just call up Masa to make a reservation.
In regards to dinner, you could hire a private chef for $500 to cook a nice dinner in the privacy of his own home. Basically, pay the chef then have the boss send requests to the chef to prepare.
Yeah it’s not exactly Netflix. This doesn’t mean it’s a Sheit website, it’s one of my most frequented sites, however I don’t think it has any more market value.
