I’ll be in Toronto in a few weeks - near the university. Any tips on things to do/see? I haven’t been there in 20+ years. By myself (no family), so I’m open to suggestions.
Near U of T? If so, you’ve got tons of options. Anything in particular you loooking for? Nightlife? Ball game?
Go to the taco place at kensington market. If you want to make the most of it, they usually sell pot in the park around the corner.
Not a big nightlife fan. Interesting places to eat, touristy shite, nearest bike routes, etc…
I’m mostly looking at stuff after 5 (I’m tied up during the day).
Greek food on Danforth Avenue (take Bloor subway).
Copacabana - all you can eat Brazilian BBQ. this place is great
get some poutine (tons of places around, just google)
librettos pizzeria
going down to the lake - nice bike lanes/paths - Amsterdam Brewhouse is cool
Steamwhistle Brewery - they do tours and samples
Check out the Rogers Centre for a baseball game. Since the jays have been doing well, these are a lot more fun
Royal Ontario Museum is near U of T if you’re into that shit
Battle Axe - axe throwing. Lot’s of hipsters but still a good time
St. Lawrence Market is cool. They have an antique shop right across from there on Saturdays
lots of ‘hip’ restaurants/bars/clubs along King Street between Blue Jays Way and Bathurst
China Town/Kensington Market (as mentioned above)
if you want to meet some laaaaadies, hit up King street or hop on the tinder
Smoke’s Poutine, west of Adelaide/university. Conveniently beside Burger’s Priest and Burrito Boyz.
Quick lunch place near UofT, Burrito Bandidos (my favourite in the city), off Walmer and Bloor. There aren’t many food places around the St.George street side of the university, fyi.
Some people like the Hockey Hall of Fame. Raptors might still be in the Mix. Ticks will be expensive so Real Sports (just outside the stadium) is a nice bar to watch.
I was there for a week last year. I was in meetings all day so I didn’t really have a chance to check anything out except the restaurants. Ate like a freaking king.
A couple I remember off the top of my head.
Patria - Spanish - Patriatoronto.com
Le Select Bistro - French - leselect.com
Man . . . I love Greek food.
Spanish and Portuguese foods are interesting: these were the spice traders to the world, but their cuisine is not particularly spicy.
Weird.
A bit of a tangent, but…I was watching the Raptors/Pacers Game 7 yesterday and was wondering how the city likes basketball and the Raptors?? Do many people attend the games? How does it compare to the Leafs in terms of ticket/prices/media coverage?
Toronto is a sports loving city that is dying for any team to win. Basketball is still not as popular as hockey, but the raps have been doing a lot better lately so they are catching up to the leafs in terms of ticket prices. Games are obviously sold out during playoffs and are pretty packed during the regular season for sub-par teams and sell outs for the big players. Media coverage for hockey is retarded. They talk hockey all throughout the year. I’d say it’s on par with nfl in the states. Basketball doesn’t get nearly as much coverage.
To be honest, this is a city full of bandwagoners. Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) which owns both raps and leafs just make a killing.
I don’t bother going to games unless i get the tix comped or as a gift.
^ Seconded. Sports is huge in Toronto. Bandwagons. If you ask people, they would say they aren’t a raptors/leafs/jays fan. They are a Toronto fan.
Like, TheBigCheese said, hockey is huge here all season long (but leafs are the worst of the three). If raptors and jays makes the playoffs, then the city gets behind them.
California Sandwiches on Claremont off of Dundas St W: good Italian sandwiches!!!
Where do the freaks hang out in Toronto
