Good films that may have not been seen that much

Since I dont watch horror and fantasy movies and the very fact that I used to watch a movie everyday until 2 years ago I have seen most good films cinema(American)has to offer.I have recently switched to european films but european films has its limits too.Now without suggesting p**n or any simillar material suggest some films to me I can watch while the wife is away that you think have not enjoyed much popularity thus reducing the chance that I might have seen them

2 Girls, One Cup. It’s a classic.

+1

Meh, I thought “Shake that Bear” had better plot.

Edit: Also relevant given the talk about big game hunting.

But seriously, nobody google this stuff at work.

The best movie title I have ever seen was “Call of Booty: Black Cops”. Whoever comes up with this should get a medal. Seriously, this is really deep stuff.

Titanic, ET, or Jurassic Park.

Any indian alternatives to the specific genre you guys are recommending ?

Two Girls, One Cup of Curry?

^lmao

US movie that didn’t do well which i thought was pretty good is “Suicide Kings.” A French movie that did very well but is French and wasn’t too popular in the States but was really good is “The Intouchables”

Water World

If you like classics and would like to try something exotic, try Russian cinema. Here’s a list of awesome movies:

Flight of the Cranes

Tankcruiser Potomkin

Walking the Streets of Moscow

Kommisar

Stalker

Solaris

Ivan’s Childhood

Aleksandr Nevskij

Andrej Rublev

War and Peace (Bondarchuk version)

The sun that blinds us

What exactly are you pissed of about at American movies? Keep in mind there is no other film industry yet that has the financial muscle that Hollywood has. So if your preference is larger than life Superhero type stuff that Marvel and DC are churning out or visual spectacles like Avatar then you will be disappointed if you look elsewhere. If you are willing to accept a drop in quality of production etc in exchange for actual content and story then there are numerous places you can look.

If you’ve heard of the quote which is somewhat relevant “In Italy, for 30 years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace - and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.” then you will know instead of looking at Europe (unless you’re looking at places like former Yugoslavia) you should look at places that are undergoing immense social or economic change. I’ve watched about 4-5 Iranian movies in the last year and they’ve all been outstanding :

  1. For a moment, freedom.

  2. Children of Heaven

  3. Taxi - the director of this was recently banned from film-makng by Iranian authorities which gives you more reason to see it.

If you want to see Indian movies then you should avoid Hindi speaking Bollywood (unless you like the escapism theme) and look at the Telugu,Tamil and Bengali speaking industries which are substantially deeper. Look at indie directors also, especially a guy called Anurag Kashyap. Dev D, Shaitan and Black Friday are movies at the top of my head. The Brazilian movie City of God is also a must watch.

Hollywood is changing though and is becoming more diverse, there was outrage recently when they cast Emma Stone in an Asian role (seriously, wtf White people?) and all the crappy shit that they try to pull will probably not be tolerated any more. Before that you might want to wait for Netflix’s adaptation of the novel Beasts of No Nation featuring Idriss Elba. This dude would kill it as the new Bond.

Mean Girls

@Zidhai

I am an Iranian,me and my wife come from educated and culture loving families,however either the translation you have been offered for the movie titles is shit or they are outside Iran,honestly I have never heard of those titles except children of heaven(in iran called children of sky) which I think to be the same stuff.Iran has good cinema particularly “Asghar Farhadi” and the subculture he has brought to the cinema.

@Highway

I thought komissar was from another eastern block country and actually an Anti Nazi movie however I may be mistaken since that Komisar was a trilogy or something similar in nature.

@Everyone else

I have a 1tb hard filled with those p@@n movies hidden from the wife,honestly help out with actual movies.
