When I started the program, only 3 years of relevant work experience was required. By the time I successfully completed the exams (took one year off, and failed level II once), the work experience requirement had changed to 4 years. Is anyone aware of any sort ‘grandfathering’ grant with respect to the work experience requirement, whereby candidates would be required to fulfill the work experience requirements in effect at the date they began the program? Just curious. Thanks
you are grandfathered in if you enrolled when you only needed 3 years.
Found an old post that says if you were still a candidate by 2007 (change implemented in 2005?), you needed 4 years of experience. http://www.analystforum.com/phorums/read.php?12,174183,174296#msg-174296 That being said this same guy was gullible enough to believe that the institute was implementing a Level IV exam. Storko, had you made this same inquiry to the institute in the past? Thanks
I’ve inquired about this in the past and told no dice. There is no grandfathering…
whaa? i am not grandfathered, but my friend was… at least that what he told me and he;s a charterholder now. but he’s old, like 30, so he may have had all the experience he needed regardless
Thanks. Your insight is much appreciated.
Turns out there was a ‘grandfather period’, but you had to become a regular member by 2007. For future reference, in case anybody searches the forums, I thought I’d post the ‘official’ CFAI policy. "Please note that membership requirements changed in 2004. To be fair to candidates who entered the CFA Program prior to that time under the old requirements, the “grandfather period” was established to provide existing candidates with an opportunity to complete the appropriate regular membership requirements. A deadline of July 2007 was established and approved by senior management of CFA Institute to apply to all grandfathered candidates equally. To be evaluated for Regular membership based on the previous work experience requirements, an individual was required to become a Regular member before 1 July 2007. Individuals who had not accrued the necessary experience by that time were subject to the new work experience requirements. "
