GRE

I know that gmatclub.com is a great site for GMAT preparation. Is there a similar site for GRE?

i swear, the toughest aspect of the GRE is memorizing vocabulary lists the math part should be easily aced for anyone like you maratikus (quant-oriented)

are there any part-time phd programs?

yes there are a couple actually, one of my colleagues is doing his part time PhD in Mathematical Physics itstoohot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > are there any part-time phd programs?

http://www.urch.com/forums/gre/ Rote-learning those Barrons 3500 words + n-more from Kaplan, Princeton, etc was the biggest nightmare.

Thanks, D! That’s exactly what I was looking for.

I took the GRE when I was a junior in college. Was seriously considering going to grad school for some sort of social science (econ/anthropology/sociology). GRE is pretty much like the SATs back in the day. If you had a good SAT score you will have a good GRE score. Math was pretty easy and if you had a math background you will kill it and like Swap mentioned above re-learned all those words was the most time consuming part.

I never took SAT. I just talked to a professor familiar with admissions at my school. He is saying that only quant score of GRE matters. That’s annoying that I have to take GRE considering I was in 99 percentile on GMAT quant score and GMAT quant is considered a little more challenging. Now I’m considering just quickly reviewing math and taking GRE in 2 weeks.

2 weeks is plenty of time with your background. I’d maybe spend a few hours reading through a list of unusual words, but unless you are a masochist I wouldn’t put any more time into than that. There are prep books out there you can get that should give you a good run down off what to expect.

Thanks OP. I had a similar questions. Anybody take the math or economics GRE? I’d also like to know about GRE prep if anybody has some advice.

took the maths GRE, i had covered most of the course in my undergrad, had to pay special attention to differential equations was easy boom_or_bust Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks OP. I think you should be able to knock an easy 790 or 800 on there.

Looks like Yale’s MBA is accepting GRE scores this year. Good idea to take the GRE instead of the GMAT for this?

Do they still have an “analytical section” ? That was the coolest part of all. My verbal was garbage off-course, but no one looks at that unless you’re a history major or something like that.

Did you do good in the SATs without studying? If you did you’ll prob do good in either test. I’ll prob do GMAT just because other schools aren’t going to take GRE scores.

Yes. I’m looking into buying a practice book from GMAT just to make sure I know what I’m getting into before I throw down the $250 for the real deal.

I was looking at some Masters in Public Policy/Public Admin, Columbia’s/John Hopkins/Georgetown average GRE score is like 1500 so you will need a good GRE score to get into a good program.

I would say 1400+/1600 would be a great score.
