My exercise regime has become non-existent as I prepare for L2 in June. Same thing happened last year for L1. The CFA is worth the sacrifice but I’d still like to work out more than I am. For those that work out…how do you incorporate your gym time into your busy study/work/family life? Do you workout out in the morning before studying or at night? How many times a week? Any thoughts are appreciated.
I have been gaining weight with all my studying and fewer gym trips. I try to cycle in the morning now.
family? What’s that? This concept does not compute. what my plan actually was (which I’m still trying to incorporate) that I would wake up a couple of hours early in the morning to get the studying in, and then work out after work. The problem I’m having with is waking up early in the morning (the hardest part of my day is waking up) to study, and that just messes up the rest of my day because when I get home after work I feel like I should be studying, though I’ll maybe get only 30 minutes worth of studying done and can’t sacrifice the time to workout. It’s hard to study after a day at work because the mind needs to relax. Studying in the morning is best, imo. Working out in the evening is also good because you get a chance to blow off steam from the days events and doesn’t require a lot of “thinking” per se. You also burn the calories you’ve built up during the day. Studying in the morning allows you to start the day fresh, when your brain is fully recharged, ready to sink in new information relatively quickly. That’s my opinion anyways. Just need to work on waking up early and I’ll be fine, but at the current juncture I’m on a good path to fail. I’m only on SS 5.
I think the most successful strategy for me has been wake up at 6 goto the gym(in the building), get done by 7, goto work at 7:30(5 min drive), get done at 7PM or so, goto starbucks and study for 2 hours and get done at 9, take dinner and relax and goto bed by 11PM…
GYM, what’s this?? Is this yet another ticker that I need to cover now on?? I see something listed with this symbol on the Sweden Stock Exchange. On a serious note, Gym is a luxury good till 7th, timewise. I’ll let the little tummy grow till then and hit-back the tread-mills after the exam.
just do your exercises at the office… i mean nothing wrong with doing a few squats at the toilet, and a few jumping jacks down the hallways instead of doing easy stuff like “walking”. And perhaps do handstands instead of sitting down at your office.
My interim strategy has been to eat a very healthy diet (1500-1750 calories a day) combined with a little bit of exercise each day on the weekday, followed by 2 hours each weekend day. The weekday regimen consists of 20-30 minutes of the treadmill and 15-20 minutes of weights. I have all this equipment in my basement, so it makes it a bit easier during the weekday when I get home around 8:30.
I study on the weekends until April 1, gym schedule hasn’t changed. Starting April 1, I’m going to study in the morning and work out in the evenings also early Saturday and Sunday mornings.
i gym at night after work (9pm) until about 1030pm. get home by 11pm, study until 12:30am.
I lift weights in my basement every morning in before work at 5am. I would be spending a lot more time working out if it wasn’t for the CFA. Starting June 8th, I will be busting a$$ to get back what I have lost in strength and endurance. For me, skipping the workouts altogether is not an option. If my body feels like a piece of sh!@ I get extremely irritable and can’t concentrate on anything.

I have been lifting weights religiously since I was about 14 (26 now) and it has become my main stress outlet.
This all comes down to time management/personal preference. Eating healthy is a given. I see not working out arguably putting me at a comparative disadvantage to someone of equal intellect and understanding of concepts. First, studies show the brain is more agile when the body is in good shape. Could be critical when one must where so many hats e.g. switching and combining concepts mentally for CFA exam questions. Second, the CFA is a long exam. Endurance physically and mentally will be critical. This being said, I work out at least three times a week for no more than one hour MAX, after work. I do an intensive circuit with little or no breaks in between, and no bullsh!tting with the hottie on the machine next to me. I’m in, and I’m out. This takes care of cardio and weight training in one shot on avg. taking 45 min. A protein shake and quick bite later, I’m home, it’s usually 9:30 or 10. I read until 1:00-1:30 max. Impossible is nothing. Some weeks I work out three days in a row, some weeks MWF, or some other combo, it just depends. Bottom line, I get it done. Granted, besides working out, going to work, and CFA reading…I have no fu%@ing life at all. Nevertheless, I’m happy to say, I find it easier to stay focused when studying, and easier to get up in the morning. Come summer, assuming I pass level 1, I will be ready to hit the scene in great shape and get a girlfriend for 6 months until I start hardcore level 2 studying.
Does anyone here have a life besides work? Or, more specifically, does anyone here have a substantial life besides work, exercise, and the occasional beer/sex? For example, hobbies, ministries, charity, or particular intellectual interests? I’m seeing a lot of posts where life is get up early, work out, go to work, study, watch tv and go to bed. Are we all consciously aware of this? Just wonderin’.
I try to get out every friday after work for beers, but other than that saturdays/sundays my ass is at home studying. It’s been that way since January but I’m still pretty behind because I can’t get my act together during the workweek. I also just ended my relationship of 2 years back in dec, so relationships arent a distraction to me at this time.

exactly! i think that would definitely count as having a life == numi Wrote: > What if the beer and sex are more than just > occasional?
I work 7am-4 or 5; go home and eat, and get my gear ready for work the next day then head back to work for 6:30, study until 8:30, hit the gym until 10 3 nights a week spend time with the gf 2 nights a week. i’m also on a bball team that plays once a week. Thankfully my gf is an actuary so not only understands the schedule but lives it too and my buddies are good enough to leave me out of the plans until i call them. kkent; I’m hoping my “substantial” life takes a back seat shortly as I’m struggling to keep up with the books for LII. Playing the odd game of poker, hitting the club or heading to my parents place to run my dogs or roast my little brother at halo are about as substantial as my life has been as of late. this summer the plan is to find some time to coach some bball and volunteer at a children’s oncology clinic and maybe see if i can find a piece of my soul left. anyways, back to throwing darts.
The gym should NOT be foregone for CFA studies. Use the reduced drinking/going out to save extra cash and work out more… No levels of this test are so difficult that you cannot workout as much as you want to… it is only an hour out of your day (unless you are a banker, in which case you do not have time regardless of the cfa exam, or if you are one of those “Imna study for only a month” people). Infact, go out less and work out extra hard in may so that post exam, you are beach ready.
