Just finished the first book. I’m not sure if this is specific to L3, but there was a lot of repetition when you go through all the Standards, the interpretations and then the Asset Manager Code of Conduct.
I skipped SS 1,2 Ethics I plan to hit that last, I’ve done 3 & most of 4, hope to get through book 2 next week. It was very hard to start up again but now I’m almost back in study mode. I kind of got bogged down trying to use the e-book the resolution sucks, very hard to read and printing is total crap. Based on an early start I wanted to take high quality notes so I tried the highlighter and notes which in concept is great but for me it did not work I kept having to go from the hard book to the e-book which added allot of time. I think in a year or 2 they may have the e-book set up correctly but for now the technology is not there. At this point I just quit the e-book and went back to the hardcopy of the book and taking real notes.
I have been reading Behavioral Finance & Private Wealth Mgmt from CFAI Text for the past weeks. This SS3 is like an excerpt from Mars. The tax component from SS4 is like a 1st civilization (Google Dr. Michio Kaku) imposing tax on earth dwellings. Yeah, it sounds alien.
Will start in early/middle Dec. Working on some higher level maths for now and taking it a bit easy after having had to look for jobs in the summer.
just looked at the cover…maybe in a few weeks I will have the courage to go past the cover.

I couldn’t agree anymore, although I am familiar with the tax section they took from L2 last year.
I have started with Ethics, the most familiar portion. Completed half of it till now.
just out of interest, to all of those people starting with the books now, when did you start studying for levels 1 and 2? do people recommend spending longer on level 3? i started my level 1 and 2 studying four months before exams and dont think i could put up with doing much more than that for level3…?
^ been discussed countless times. Depends on how efficiently you study. You could probably study in 4 months so long as those 4 months are intense study - you know yourself best, but if I were you, I would skim the material quickly, and then decide when you think you should begin.
just an observation, if not already made. Ethics this year, is revised version compared to past. Its 10th edition versus 9th last year.
Started 3 weeks ago. And I’m done with Behavioral Finance and IPS for Individual Investor. So far I have found it very hard. Seems like L3 is very subjective unlike L1 & L2 where little or no judgement was involved (except for Ethics of course) and there were mostly calculations and accurate answers. L3 has been very tough so far and I wonder if we need to apply judgement in all areas or its just with IPS and Behavioral Finance?

For me, the motivation to start early and spend whatever time I can now is driven by the fact that I don’t want to repeat Level 3. After passing L1 and L2 in first try, I just want to make sure I pass L3 also in the first go. Also spreading out the study time over 6-8 months worked well for me for L1 and L2. I never had to sacrifice personal life and did not have to count my study hours since I did not have to cover all the material in 3-4 month period.
^^ +10
wanna start now, but cant motivate
i passed LIII this year. make sure you dedicate the bulk of your studying time on Investment Policy Statements and Bonds. know that sh it.
no, studying for the Series 7 now then 63 then 87 before Jan 1. Jan 1 is my start date
I started around Mid September and am now reading the study materials. I plan to have everything read before Christmas. This is not my first time writing level 3 but I want it to be the last.
