Hours per week

I wanted to see what how many hours per week everyone is averaging? I am shooting for atleast 15, but I may need to bring this up to 20.

How do people calculate how much time they study? Do you use a stopwtach or something?

Eh I am still around 5 a week, but I have been doing 5-10 since October and finished quant & econ so I still have a bit of time to slowly ramp up the intensity.

I track every second I study using an app called, Toggl. They have a web applicatiion as well. Great for logging how much time I am putting in, and I can keep track of how I am doing towards my weekl/monthly/total goal. You can export reports online as well.

I tried a couple other apps but I find this app the simplest and easiest to use.

I don’t count how much time I study. I just go over the material and attempt practice questions until I can comfortably move on.

I don’t calculate the time, but I calculate targets measured by chapter read and number of questions solved. We know there are 56 readings, more than 5,000 exercises available and mocks, so I track my path to those objectives.

Tracking number of hours is a vague measure because not all hours are the same quality and the target is not 300 hours, but what I described above.

I created a simple spreadsheet to track my Level I study progress and still use it for Level II. The hours are not exact as I tend to round up or down and don’t account for breaks, but I tend to underestimate my hours. I also use it to keep track of average hours per day to get an estimate of total study hours by completion.

That said, I’m doing 15 hours a week, and will probably push that to 20 per week in a couple of months. This is my second attempt (failed Band 9 in June) and I will say it’s been much harder to stay motivated this time. My study tracker helps with that somewhat.

I use toggl too -it’s great!

5-10 hours most weeks (plus what I spend on here). I may get above 10 for few weeks, but not by much. If I need to take the 3 or 5 day live Wiley course at the end I will.

Using a percentage score on EOC, LOC etc. is just a vague as logging hours, but at least with hours, I can compare myself to my overall weekly/monthly/total goal.

I’m doing approx 12 hours a week. Worked well for level 1, but anticipate I may have to do a little more for level 2 .

4-5 hours on mon-thurs

3-4 on sat

3-4 on sun

Taking the last 2 weeks off so will do 6-7 hours per day then with a couple of days off.

Should hit 300, hopefully its enough

The best way right now is to calculate how many pages you read in an hour. Over the first couple of weeks you can estimate (Estimating per book seems like a good way - each book could be faster or slower)…From there you can say it will take you x hours to cover the material…or x hours to cover a book. You can gauge with what you think you are studying…

I find this the best way to estimate. If I sit down for 3 hours do I really read and cover the material for the full 3 hours - or do I get distracted or off topic for 30 minutes of that 3 hours. I gauge by how many pages I am covering…

there are people who have studied <250 hours and managed to pass and there are people who have supposedly done 500 hrs and failed…it clearly shows something… no of hours dont matter at all…its the quality of study that matters…and also how comfortable you are as an individual as far as financial concepts are concerned…if you have a strong base…it will be easier than for someone who comes from a non finance background…and one more thing…counting the number of hrs as a criteria of whether one will pass or fail is a sure way to mess up…

I don’t use time as a measure for my learning but I still keep track just for my own knowledge so I can answer that question when people ask me how may hours I have studied. For L1 I studied around 250 hours and I am anticipating studying 300-325 hours for L2.

I go by how I’m keeping up with the study schedule and how I’m doing on the EOC ?'s, Qbank, etc.

Hour a day during week = 5 hours

3 hours a day during weekends = 6 hours

Total = ~11 hours a week

I’m aiming for 15 hours/week and haven’t been able to do much beyond that.

I usually hit 7.5 hours Mon-Fri then another 7.5 between Sat/Sun. Tracking it all w/ aTimeLogger app.

1 hour before work, 1 hour after is my routine. It gets harder after a few days in a row (either poor sleep, poor planning, or both).

Finished FRA and Equity between 12/31 and 2/1, so pacing feels good for now.

Counting the amount of hours studied is completely and utterly useless imho. Don’t let what others have said about their study hours influence how you’re going to study. Know your own strengths and weaknesses and allocate your studying time effectively based on that. Period. Some people are more intelligent than others and some grasp concepts fast than others. That’s okay! Study until you feel comfortable about a topic/reading/LOS/whatever and then move on. That’s my 2 cents.

AMEN!

IF you do actually want to count your hours, check out toggl. it’s both an app and in-browser stopwatch that you can track how much time you spend on each subject. This may seem like a waste of time to some, but gives you a good idea how much time you spend on each topic. It helps with productivity.

Key to all this studying is keeping your mind fresh. Eat well, exercise and get enough sleep.

I’m going for 3 hours a day during the week and 8-10 on weekends BUT as was said above, all depends on you. There is no golden rule

cool.
