How did cfa did to that calc for historical g

In cfa they calcd .585(1+g)^8=1.46 and they solve for g and got 12.11 how do you get to 12.11

1.46/.585 = (1 + g)^8 take the 8th root of both sides (or raise to the power of 1/8, which is .125) so 2.495726^.125 = 1.121114 = 1 + g, subtract 1 and g = .121114
