AF folks, I know the mantra “It’s not what you know, but who you know.” esp when it comes to Wall street. i am willing to network, but my contacts (inner and second) are all in IT and non finance… How do I break in and start networking if I don’t know anyone in the field. Thanks in advance.
I’d start with beers at a bar close to all the banks, daily for happy hour. in fact I have a friend who got an internship with a local PE just by studying at the coffee shop in their building.
Go to CFA Events Go to speakers presenting cool finance topics Hang out at bars near BB, HF, and PE firms Learn the lingo such as FINN-ance, M’n’A’in on the Buyside, and BSD Hit LinkedIn hard etc.
Really? Is this the kind of person you want to be?
Go to the website of small investment companies. They usually list members of their investment team and contact info. Call some guy there and ask for informational lunch.
