Hi I am new to the CFA exams. Can someone explain to me how they mark the level 1 exam please?
Do we need to get at least 70% overall on each of morning and afternoon exams? Or they will take an average of the two exams , and a minium average of 70% would be the threshold?
Also, I heard some people say you will need to get a min of 70% in EACH topics in order to pass, is that true?
It’s a combined score, morning and afternoon. One score for the whole test.
You DO NOT need 70 in each area. You don’t even need 50 in each area. You area scores are irrelevant.
The 70% is just a number thrown out there for reference. The actual minimum score is set through a complex process. 70% is probably safe. But who knows?
CFA Institute does not reveal the minimum passing score. However, it is certain that you do not need a minimum of 70% in each topic area to pass; it is a total points exam, so you can get the required minimum number of points (whatever that is) with any sufficient combination of points from each topic area.
