How do you deal with failure?

Although different from the CFA exams, I failed my driving test today and am a bit down. In addition, there’s a 10 day waiting period to retake, but if you live in the UK, you know it can take much longer to book a slot.

Maybe it’s not as high stakes as the CFA with its months and months of preparation and 1 year waiting periods, but if you have tips on how to bounce back, would like to hear them. I can’t find it in me to go the gym because I know I’ll see traffic lights, give way lines, junctions, and cars making turns along the way … don’t wanna be reminded of that :frowning:

my answer re cfa level 2 failure is that i didn’t deal with it!

I was pissed off about it until i made it right the year after. still in hindsight I’m pissed off about it. the only thing that made me less arsey about it was hitting the gym and putting energy into studying it harder and nailing it.

fuck knows how i would have been if i’d failed it a 2nd time round.

You can pull up your 3 congratulation letters from the CFA and reread those, WINNING.

Eh. you can’t win them all. “sunny days wouldn’t be special, if it wasn’t for rain. Joy wouldn’t feel so good, if it wasn’t for pain.” - the great thinker, 50 Cent.

that’s where alcohol kicks in

You failed a driving test? They must be tougher in the UK because you have to be virtually impaired to fail in the US.

UK driving test is much much harder than the US. You have the advantage of nice wide paved modern roads. Most roads in England were around before cars were invented and really meant for walking and horses so they are usually very narrow and hilly with signs and traffic lights in odd places. On top of that the examiner was as much an A-hole as the proctors administering CFA tests.

Anyway got another test booked.

Makes sense - best of luck. I didn’t know if it was tougher because you guys’ drive on the wrong side of the road

Here in the UK, more people fail than pass their driving test. The system is that there’s a theory test where the pass rate is about 65%, and then after there’s a practical test (ie out in the car with the examiner) where the pass rate is about 43%.

Only after passing both are you let loose alone on the road. Its just a pity that most people forget everything they have learned after that

wow, i didn’t realise that the pass rate for the practical was only 43%. That makes me feel slightly better about failing my 1st attempt all those years ago!

good luck on the 2nd attempt

I failed my test in the UK when I mounted the pavement reversing round the corner, it was an old road and there was no difference between the height of the road and the pavement, so I didn’t notice.

Failure is not permanent until you make it one. It can at worst be a set back if you do not accept and try harder next time. Your attitude matters…Nothing Else

At what age can you start driving in the UK?
