What kind of score on a Schweser Qbank exam with 240 questions and proper topic weightings translates into passing/failing the June exam? I know there can’t be a concrete #, but in general what % should I aim for in order to have a good shot at passing?
I have a similar question: I just bought the Q-bank questions and have been taking a couple section exams. When creating the exams I have left off the Basic Questions and only check the Intermediate and Advanced Questions. Do you guys think that is a good idea or bad idea? I think its good because i will still try to get my pass rate as high as if i was answering all the basic questions. Down side is that I don’t get to see the basic questions and have pracitce answering them… I used the Kaplan test bank for my series 7 and was scoring in the 82-87% range on the full tests, and then scored a 91% on the 7. So I would feel comfortable if I was scoring in the 85%+ range on the practice tests. -Mitch
There is also an option to exclude questions you already answered correctly, maybe this would be a better way to eliminate questions that are very easy. I think a *single* correct answer would exclude the question with this option though, it would be nice to be able to create an exam with say the top X number of questions that you consistently get wrong. Anyway, I’m still interested with what other people are aiming for in their QBank %s…
Jt222, i have been exlcuding questions i have allready seen. After each test i go back and analyze each question if i got it right or wrong. So they questions are real fresh in my mind and wont do that much good to answer them again with in the week, after a week or two has past i go back through and use the questions i have allready seen. -Have a good weekend everyone!
I would assume the 2008 qbank is quite similar to the 2007 version. If that is the case, I would recommend doing the easy level questions as well. Reason being on the actual test, the questions are very conceptual and not very calculation intensive. I felt the difficult level questions on the qbank focused too much on longer calculations.
I started getting 65-70 on the qbank and then was averaging 85% the day before the exam. I felt very confident coming out of the exam and felt that it was 95+% that I passed. I would say to expect an exam score of about 5 points lower than Q-bank so if you are scoring 75-85 you should be ok.
Have you guys been doing CFA weighting exams with QBANK or by individual section? I have been scoring in the 70’s on each individual section and have yet to take a complete exam. I wanted to make sure I knew the majority of each section and then hit the comprehensive exams. What do ya’ll think?
beingthatguy, Each individual section or each study session. Do you do 60 Qs at a time. I am also scoring in 70s. I am nut sure is it enough to get thru the real test or not. S
Each Study session, I am doing 60 question tests. I score in the 70’s but it always seems like there is 1 reading that I do poorly on and which is why my scores aren’t where they should. I have recently been going back to the book to re read the section that I do the worst on and hopefully my scores will improve to the 80’s. My goal is to have the majorty of each section in the high 70’s low 80’s before the test. Saurya, how are you doing the questions?
Similar to you - for each study session (not readings) 60 qs. S

I agree with you, I would choose to do more of the basic questions then the advanced for the same reason. In the actual exam they will test you on your basic understanding. Advanced questions on Qbank are mostly lenghty calculation type, which are quite rare in the actual exam. And if such questions do come in the actual exam, i wouldnt watse 2-3 minutes on doing those, instead i will focus more on the other questions and get them right.
I found the anwser to the original question (What % on schweser practice = pass on actual exam) on schweser’s “blog”. Its not really a blog… mostly just a way for schweser to try and scare you into buying more of their products, but anyway… “When I was a candidate, I wanted to be scoring 80% plus on the practice exams. I estimated that the stress of exam day could knock 10% off my score and I wanted that safety margin. I also read the bit on the internet forum about the 80-90%, the 90% seems high to me, to be honest.” -Jodi Joachim, CFA - Schweser’s Director of Content Development
When you are scoring 70% Plus for the QBANK then it means you are on track. The reason is that what you get wrong you will correct it the next time and become better and better. For book 6 and the CFA EXAMS anything above 65% will put you in a good shape.I believe there is a psychology to the whole thing, and once you start getting 65% you will think you are screwed and will put in all your effort.
