I am fresh here, I just passed CFA level 1 exam and will take FRM level 1 exam in Nov and CFA level 2 exam next June, I register in Nov because many people told me at least 30% of FRM level 1 exams is same as CFA 2 exams, if they do not tell me that I will reserve more time for CFA 2 exam as I know CFA level 2 is very difficult and choose a better time for FRM
But sadly all people who told me FRM level 1 can cover CFA level 2 exam failed in CFA 2 in this June, some of them get very good results in FRM level 1(4A). so I want to get more information here, Thanks
I am currently also thinking about taking FRM part 1.
It is only my opionion. Having passed the CFA Level 2, though I did it in 4 months, I spent much more than recommeneded 300 hours. And I am full time grad students with no personal life. So it all depends on your available time, but I’d recommend you to take all you have on Level 2.
The reason is that though there are overlaps, i’d say maybe 60-70% with both Levels, FRM seems to focus more on quants and CFA Level 2 has more accounting, equity analyst perspective that are quite different from FRM. Even derivatives part, it seems that it is more Level 1 CFA (I haven’t read through it in more detail though) with hedging problems, whereares Level 2 CFA cover alot of pricing derivatives. Thus, I’d afraid that if you rely too much on the fact that it overlaps, then you’ll have less time on the CFA exam.
