how to improve my score?

Hi everyone, I gave my 1st practice exam(schweser part 2) on Nov 10th and scored 43% in morning session and 47% in aftrnoon session. I was very much worried. Then for next 2days I spent time on checking were I went wrong . Then revised the study material again and did some software questions and gave my 2nd schwerser practice exam yesterday (nov 18th), I was very upset to know my score as 53%. I have no idea were I am going wrong. It would be great if some can help me for my last 14 days plan.

You do need to improve your mock scores, because I had similar Schweser mock exam scores last year and I ended up failing the real level 1 exam. But, if it is any consolation to you, I did find the Schweser live mock exam questions much harder and longer than the actual exam questions.

Well, “how to improve my score” is a bit hard to answer. Isn’t this what you’ve been trying to do for the past several months? I suppose you should try to identify the sections where you’re getting the questions wrong. Read those sections again and do practice questions immediately after. If you’re getting the questions wrong across the board, then there probably isn’t enough time to review everything. Instead, do as many practice questions as possible.

I agree with ohai. Review the areas in which you are weak and strengthen your strong areas. Once you are done with that try doing the CFA mock after you are done with CFAI EOC questoins. This not the time to judge yourself but the time to put in everything to pass the exam by making yourself excellent. Practice is the only solution for that. CFAI EOC and CFAI MOC are exam proxy questions, give a far better idea of the difficulty level and question framing style. Do go through the CFAI EOC Summaries they are excellent in making you revise the key points of the chapters.

Thanks a lot Valtinho, Ohai and Mohd Belall , for your suggestions. While I was reviewing my exam I found that most mistakes I made were silly. Yes , I need to do lots of practice questions. Thanks for helping me…your suggestions has kind of boosted my confidence again.

Don’t take any practice exam, you must focus on topic you do not know

To the OP: If you took the mock from Schweser Volume 2, then you are wasting your time. Those questions are ridiculously long and not at all representative of the real test.

I think, there are some great questions asked in several trails. Only if we could combine them to create like flash cards. a wikipedia kind of place only for questions.

I would focus on the highest weighted areas with the lowest scores and move forward. There is still plenty of time to move that score up. Try to avoid focusing on large areas (multiple SS at a time), rather, drill down on individual ones and move forward that way. Just my 2 cents

Are schweiser practise exams not worth … I am giving a lot of time to it !

I have heard those exams are very calc heavy while the exam tests more comprehension then the plug’n’chug mentality.

you’re toast. szachary stop posting on the forum and start studying this is like asking someone when youre on fire how to put yourself while when your standing near a gas station pump

There are two books of Schweser practice exams, book 1 and book 2, most people only have book 1. Book 2 is significantly harder and some people say not to even bother with it. Silly mistakes are often a result of not knowing the material to the proper depth (and oversimplifying concepts when reading them). Sometimes they result from not enough practice with questions. The solution here is to spend the next two weeks reviewing weak areas and banging out practice questions (in all areas so you don’t get rusty in your strong points).

Thanks Black, I completely agree. Doing summary readings and following with questions to solve.

cut me some slack it’s 7:00 am…the coffee is still brewing.

Practice, practice, practice! Routine and in-depth-knowledge is the key to succeed as it helps you to avoid unnecessary mistakes and to learn where to be careful. Try more Practice exams (there are 2 volumes! = 6 exams see above). Don’t make the mistake to spend all the time on “learning”. From practice exams you are actually learning quite a lot! Repeat the questions you had problems with. My experience was that the CFA mock and my Level 1 exam was roughly as difficult as the Schweser Practice exams.
