Hypothesis testing and Regression Analysis

Hey guys, I’m going through the Quant book and am having trouble with these two topics…especially F-tests, Chi-squares and when to use them, and some of the more advanced topics in Rgression analysis etc…coming from an absolute 0 stats knowledge level before, it’s all reeally overwhelming and intimidating stuff, plus I have no idea how I’m going to memorize all this stuff effectively :frowning: Anyway, I just wanted to ask would the questions on the L1 exam ask you to actually do all the number crunching talked about in these sections (such as computing the correlation coefficient given returns for X and Y)…or would there be more questions that test your knowledge of the stuff without lengthy calculations…for isntance, a question asking what stat you would use as the sample size increases past 30? I ask because I remember reading somewhere on this forum that L1 questions are designed to be answered in about a minute each, and don’t involve lengthy calculations. Also, would the Z, T, F, Chi and other stat tables be provided in the exam? Thanks

CFA questions tend to be less computational, and more theoretical. The multiple choice questions in the CFAI books seem representative of the exam (they have old exam questions there)

I would advise you to take a look at this year’s curriculum because it sounds like you’re using and old curriculum and studying things which are no longer covered in Level 1.

I was using old notes a friend of mine had printed out when he was taking his L1 exam a year or two ago - just to get an idea of the material. Does the material change that much year from year? According to the CFAI website, the CBOK for the Quant section is: II. Quantitative Methods A. Time Value of Money B. Probability C. Probability Distributions and Descriptive Statistics D. Sampling and Estimation E. Hypothesis Testing F. Correlation Analysis and Regression G. Time Series Analysis H. Simulation Analysis I. Technical Analysis Aren’t the specific subjects I was talking about in my first post covered in E and F anymore?

Regression I believe got moved to level 2
