I got my Level 2 books!

you give up a lot studying for these tests, only to be rewarded with the thrill of new books : ) - On august 19, i will move “full time” to this forum. BUT, i will continue to check in heavily into the level I forum to help those taking level I in December. As future charterholders, we have an obligation to help those who need it. I expect the same from my comrades should they fail level 2 and need to take it again in 09 and can help us level II newbies… hopefully, EVERYONE that took level 2 in june 08 will NEVER EVER EVER see me again. thanks

Just got your books!!! that’s bush league… I already took my first mock exam!

ha hah. quant looks different from level I!!! i like it, though, it seems more practical…i use log linear everyday

First mock exam…amateur. I’ve allready taken every schweser practice test.

But did you get any ‘fun’ CFAI postcards as part of the package?

Daj, nothing about being a “future charter holder” obligates me to help anyone. Not saying I don’t help people, but I don’t need lectured with bad rhetoric either.

first schweser practice test… amateur I already took L2 exam once

Daj no offense man, but you are a little too much. I am a nice guy and all, but I find you a bit overwhelming… Those who excel in the financial industries are not only those that know their sh*t, but are those who tailor their approach (whether it’s an ER report, memorandum, sales pitch, etc…) to their audience. Long story short…we don’t need to hear about every minute detail of your day–you’ll be less likely to evoke a feeling of philanthropy from those on here,in regards to future questions. I bet if you spent absolutely no time on here, coupled with your energy, you’d already know the material. Just my two cents. And yes, I know I don’t have to read your messages. Anyways, I’m glad to help in future endeavors, but tone it down a bit bud!

So far, it’s been mostly good-natured. But it could easily turn ugly, and I know that’s not something you want to see. Not that you couldn’t handle it, but I’m sure you want to be a well-respected and well-liked member of the community. After all, why cause trouble for yourself when you don;t have to. This is some more unasked for advice (I know - unasked for advice is often thought of as criticism). But I’m one of older dudes here (I just turned 50 this weekend, BTW), and I;ve seen this happen a lot of times. Hey - I’ve done it to myself in my earlier lives, and I’m trying to save you some grief. To follow up on Miker’s post, try this - before you post, consider if your contribution actually does CONTRIBUTE something to the forum, or if you’re posting because of what I call bloggorhea - the need to put something out there just to hear your own voice (or see your own words in print). I’m a person whose darker angels looks too often for validation from others, so I know how this works. Since I value the folks on AF, I try particularly hard to avoid being a jerk. So I often find myself looking at something I’ve written and deleting it before posting it (for me, it’s usually because I wrote a “me too” post). I’m not saying that’s your problem. But if after reviewing, you think it’s worthwhile, read it again to check the “tone” of your message. The message that started this thread is a good example. The reason I say these things is that AF is an incredible resource. I get the impression that we have some real Big Dogs here that could be extremely good people to know for someone trying to get a toehold in the field (I’m not one of them, but I love my current job, and have no need to switch). So try not to shoot yourself in the foot. It’d be a shame, since you;re still early in the game. So contacts count for you a lot. Just take your time, and kick back a bit (at least interpersonally). I love your enthusiasm, man - it’s refreshing. But you might want to take a little time to review all the posts you’ve written so far in L2, and how people have been responding. Then figure out if that’s the pattern you want. If you’re cool with it at that point, good enough. If not, figure out who you want to be.

sage advice. you should take it
