but a quick question. When are they going to allow you to sign up for level II for 2009. I decided not to sit for it as I just passed level 1 in Dec. and my wife would have killed me. I would like to go ahead and get the preliminary reading done by end of July or August so I can go ahead and start rereading and doing problems. Is the material really that much tougher in Level II? I thought Level 1 was not that difficult, but I did prepare adequately. Y’all have me nervous after reading some of your posts. Thanks.
Yep - significantly tougher.
Fellow hokie…why are you doing this to us right now?
The level of difficulty is higher in terms of each section, but not overly so. However, the sheer amount of material is a monster and the impact isn’t really seen until you’ve had your first full read through. Let me know when you find out about the first day for LII 2009 signups, I’ll have to get on that.
Agree with both above posters. Harder and the concepts are integrated instead of separate. Much more volume.
From my perspective… twice as difficult.
… agreed. A lot of the difficulty in from the change in format. There are not 240 fairly varied questions that allow for one to leave some areas less than mastered. Some vignettes really drill into relatively obscure tidbits and there just is not the volume of questions to make up for getting caught of guard. It seems like a smaller portion of the material is actually tested- making it that much more necessary to master them all.
I can’t stand this discussion just yet.
Level II is more difficult but I wouldn’t suggest studying more than 6 months.
When I took level I I thought all the people who said level II was so hard were probably just pus@ies. I was an idiot. Level II is so f’ing hard, that if I pass this thing, even if I never accomplish anything worthwhile for the rest of my life, I’ll always know at least I did THIS. I also have an MBA. Now I feel like I have chunks of MBA in my stool.
Whats Level II?

L2 is every bet as hard as people make it out to be. It is not impossible, but one really needs to work their a$$ off to pass this test. There was some guy on the forum a couple days ago asking of the L2 exam is multiple choice because he hasn’t started studying yet… don’t be that guy.
but starting a year in advance? I mean, c’mon…thats just ridiculous.
It’s obviously not necessary, but if I had the books last summer (and wasn’t busy studying for L1 at the time) I probably would have done some reading here and there. That would give you a head start over everyone else who had to take L1 in December and then wait until February to get the results.
Widespreadhokie… Advice from a Wahoo here (if you will accept it from a rival)…I would suggest checking Ebay out around June 8th for anyone selling the CFAI Level 2 Books or Schweser notes if you really want to get ahead with some prelim reading…they normally open registration as soon as the results are out…early September and will ship the CFAI books in October…Schweser normally starts in November.
heck…i’ll sell you my books right now if you want!
^^ I actually had an offer for 3 of my 6 CFAI books few days ago…!! http://www.analystforum.com/phorums/read.php?12,701613,701793#msg-701793
