Hey Guys, A quick question please: I would like to register for CFA L3 2010, before the 1st deadline of Sep, 23rd. During registration, CFAI requires the ID number. Mine will be changed by end of next november while renewing my passport. Do you think, it would be possible to change the ID number after the registration and payment done? Thanks a lot! M.

Aren’t they just looking for your candidate ID number? What does this have to do with your passport?
I think the man is right. It refers to the ID that will be checked at the exam centre. It must have a photo and preferably issued by the govt. I believe it can be changed after registration. Afterall, you can lose the current one before the exam date.
Thanks for the head up. I just renewed my passport last week and I already registered for L3 before my passport renewal. If someone can post the procedures to inform CFAI the change, it would be great!
I don’t think you need to tell CFAI if you renew your ID. They only check your name and picture, not your ID number. As long as the ID is legitimate, you should not have a problem.
Mister Walrus is probably right. This is L3 forum and he must be speaking from experience. But if, subsequent to my exam registration, I did change the number of the ID I filed with CFAI, I would send them a mail. Just to play safe. If they tell me to do nothing, a hardcopy of that mail will be on me on the day of the exam. The exam is just one day in a year; the trauma of preparing for it takes about 6-9 months
no problem with that. i changed my passport 1 year back and my new passport was acceptable.

You only need to submit a name and ID change to the CFAI if you change your name (like I did). In case you need to do it, it’s a pretty easy process, there is a link in the CFAI website to do it. I changed it about a month before the exam and it only took a few days. Just go ahead and register with your existing ID and then renew it later if needed.
Also please make sure you checkbox the “pen” or the “pencil” option. You can take the AM section either in pen or pencil BUT you have to pre-register what you are going to use beforehand, unlike last year where there was confusion till the very end of what candidates were expected to use for the AM section.
Passport is the preferred ID but not the only one accepted by CFAI. I am sure there are alternatives.
