anyone hiring?
Just got the word today. Didn’t get it. They hired internally I was in final rounds of candidates and they went internal with a kid who had a few more years exp. My HR lady told me that they though “very highly and that people usually go through 4 or 5 interviews before getting placed.” Still have my head up. Besides that I have heard of a lot of people going to Wells Fargo.
In future interviews, you may want to mention that you had gotten to the final round of interviews - it lets future interviewers know that other interviewers liked you, even if they went with an internal candidate. I was about to be hired by Lehman at one point when I got locked out by a hiring freeze. Six months later, Lehman went bankrupt. Ironically, the group I was interviewing for got bought up by Barclays and everyone I talked to is still there, although the position never materialized. The point being that I have several clients who say that hearing that story gave them the confidence to work with me. So it’s not as good as getting the job, naturally, but it’s still a feather in your cap that you got that far. Use it to your advantage.
Thanks for the tip Bchad. Also, I am getting more and more exposure to people at this bank that I can communicate with and keep updated on my status. I never thought about mentioned how far I got in the process though, I like that and will definitly have that in my pocket for the next round of interviews!
Hey, nuppal. Sorry that you did not get the job. If it makes you feel better, vacancies in finance are growing. I’m sure you will have more opportunities coming up.
Im not dissapointed, I am actually relieved to find that it went to someone interal over me, it just tells me that I beat out any other external candidates which means I am doing something right! My HR lady told me to keep her updated and she is going to keep looking for me, so if anything I am looking forward to the coming months. @Get_rich, What kind of process have tyou used for looking? Are you actively looking or passively looking?
Same thing here, went out few interviews lately, however, 90% of the position I applied for was cancelled before I can move onto the next round…

Not likely - WFC has been hiring mostly internally since the wach acq.
as of right now, i am not looking actively (waiting to hear back from b schools, FT app), but i am tired of being in the same dead end job for the past 3 years and have tried to post to otehr internal positions without any luck…
I heard of 3 different people that I know in interviews with WFC. Two were for derivatives trading and one was for back office which I dont think Get_rich wants as it would imply BAD nomenclature.
done with back office crap…currently working in that capacity(investment ops) and the next job, whenever that comes sure as hell wont be back office… I am amazed at the fact that these people actually went to college…
Dont be amazed. Some (yea, only some) of the people that work next to me went to college. Judging by the conversation topics and poor grammar, you’d think they hadnt gotten a GED. Granted, I dont perform the same tasks as anyone in this region. Still though.

I can feel it. Just gotta keep grinding. I think a lot of people get discouraged because they put in what they percieve to be a reasonable amount of work to find a job. That may have been true in a mild recession or regular market, but now you just gotta amp it up. Gotta be proactive and willing to be let down, a lot.
Sorry to hear you didn’t get the job nuppal! Keep at it and something will come around. More companies will start opening positions as the market picks back up. Focus on the CFA exams and network like crazy.
It has happened to all of us, Nupps. Now make sure to give your best shot at L1. If everything goes OK, by Aug '10 you would see L2 behind you.
