I'm not getting this talk about "roadshows" in ethics

i keep seeing questions about roadshows, and how research analysts shouldn’t participate in them. I dont even get what these are- is it away for IB analysts to pump up a stock before an IPO? Can research analysts not ever participate in them if they cover a company?

It is recommended that research analysts don’t take part in road shows and if the do they need to make sure to disclose any conflicts of interest with the host and the audience whenever possible.

Road shows are promotional purposes… You’re trying to get demand up on your IPO. If a research analyst is participating in a roadshow, how can he be impartial?
