Importance of examples in cfai textbook?

I took a quick look at volume 1 study session 2, reading #5 “the tvm” and got a little uneasy. Is it just me or are some of the harder examples (like ex. 21 on pg 287) seemingly impossible to solve in the 1.5 minutes we’ll have to solve on the exam? Granted I haven’t seen any mock exam questions or anything, but they can’t be as hard as that example right? Or am I just really underestimating this test. thoughts?

I haven’t done any mock exams either but based on the CFA chapter questions and élan ones I’ve done, there’s a heap of questions that you either know or you don’t, or that only take a few seconds of logical reasoning (as long as you grasp the subject matter). Calculation questions are a pretty small proportion of the exam so you’ll definitely be able to spend a bit longer on those without falling behind…
