I recently realized I may have an inferiority complex. At first, I thought my ambition and competitiveness was healthy and a positive factor. By definition, successful people who work in finance are competitive and there is no shame in trying to be better than everyone around you. But this thinking can be a double-edge sword, as constant comparisons to others in my life is making me miserable. I try to counter-balance this effect by taking stock of past accomplishments and being happy with what I have right now.
seems like many people on this board have a superiority complex, lol
I had a very severe crisis of purpose at 17 and had, in retrospect, a subsequent five year meltdown. I was a perfect student growing up and got into a very top bschool but that came with expense of constant dissatisfaction for most of my conscious life. The crisis was nascent at 18, and peaked at 20. Ended at 22. I discovered things about myself that I would have never fathomed beforehand and am now glad that I did. If I held out longer, I would have suffered a meltdown sooner or later in my adult life with (possibly?) more drastic consequences.
This is rather common with people with some (or a lot) of artistic temperament. If you have some of that in you, it may be good to tap into that in moderation/and in discipline or you’re bound go mad sooner or later.

Almost all people in finance have latent inferiority complexes, despite how successful they are. Try posting here that you make $1,000,000 a year and see how people react.
I probably have one of those too.
Let’s zoom way out. The smart/nerdy caveman spends all his time in the back of the cave perfecting a new invention which he will call the bow and arrow. It will make the tribe awesome and he will be famous and get the super hot cavegirl. Then he can feel non-inferrior and fullfilled. Human nature doesn’t change despite the passing thousands of years and it is amazing how many guys are out of touch with their desires. Just put down the bow and arrow project (B-school, 65hr work week, weights & protein shake) and go get a good woman, if you get a good one it will solve everything.
Good women are hard to find, but when you find her, treat her well and don’t let her get away!
Inferiority complex - n - the passive aggressive resentment of americans that are more successful, better looking, and land more chicks that your nerdy self can even dream about.
Yeah, and if you get a bad one all your problems will be doubled!

I dated this amazing girl once who tried to dump me, but I wouldn’t take no for an answer. I showed up at her office and her house every day. She threatened to call the cops but I’m sure she was just joking. One time, I was waiting outside her house in my car as I do every day and this guy showed up so I punched him in the face. In retrospect, he might have just been a delivery guy. Oh well - I regard this as collateral damage in my quest for true love. My girlfriend keeps changing her address and phone number and apparently has a restraining order against me. I always manage to track her down though. Really, I’m sure that she is just testing my love. I secretly installed a webcam in her new apartment, by the way. She doesn’t know about it since I sneaked in and did it while she was out. It’s for the best though - who knows what kinds of creepy people might be harassing her. It bothers me to just think about it.
^ Nice!!!

Also defined as the resentment donkeys feels when working in the presence of smart individuals who actually do something of value that they are not qualified to do.

Ha, you guys both have issues. I would ask what ya’ll are even talking about but I don’t think you know.
i find it amazing what motivates an individual to be ‘better’ than everyone else. maybe it’s just me, but i’ll bet everyone has something specific from their past that they constantly use as motivation to get ahead. And i’ll bet that one thing would be considered completely meaningless and inconsequential by other people.
