Institutional Sales - Primary Markets

Hey guys,

Just a question : would this fall under the Capital Markets division of a bank, or under it’s Sales and Trading division ?

The reason I ask is because it seems to me that S&T is predominantly about pitching trading ideas to Buy-Side firms.

What about a sales guy who is just there to do the placement of an offering that his bank has structured / underwritten ?

It seems to me like rather an arm of the capital markets division, since they wouldn’t be “looking” for secutities for the client.

What say you ?

selling the placement is still sales. you’re just pitching a different group of people.
