Is a FULL mock exam necessary?

I am about to take the CFAI mock exams and I am wondering if the benefit of simulating the real test is worth possibly not being able to do my best, especially on the second mock test. I imagine that adrenaline will help me stay focused on test day, but I can see myself just getting bored and, consequently, not doing very good. Your thoughts?

Are you for real?

Is it worth taking the real exam too? mwillsj Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I am about to take the CFAI mock exams and I am > wondering if the benefit of simulating the real > test is worth possibly not being able to do my > best, especially on the second mock test. I clearly need to wake my ass up. I meant to ask if you guys think its of value to take both of the CFAI mock tests in the same day? Whoops…

yeah, i wondered about that. Thought about it, but decided that the purpose of the mocks is to try and identify your weak areas, not to see how you handle a 6 hour exam. So I felt that I would get more out of them by doing them seperately. Did Mock 1 two weeks ago, Mock 2 will be this weekend.

newsuper how did you fare on Mock 1?

In my opinion no. You should do them maybe 1 week apart. The conditions of taking the mock exam are different from the way the real exam will be administered to you (i.e. electronic vs. paper/pencil). So the “simulation” of taking both of them the same day is not a very good one in my opinion. I think it would be better to take one, review, practice some more qbank, and then come back and do the second test closer to the test date. I took the exam in June 08 and never did a full simulation. On a long Saturday study session, I might’ve done a 3 hour test in the morning, reviewed, ate lunch, etc. and then did another 100 or so questions late afternoon/night, and reviewed until sleep. So it wasn’t exactly a pure simulation. I think what’s more important than doing the simulation is just studying for long periods of time to get your brain in high-intensity mode. When it’s game day, I think for most people focus isn’t really an issue.
