Is an appeal going to help?

Hadnwritting could be just one reason, but then there are calculations on the AM too. I did very well on the PM part, so I really doubt that I could screw up some sections, like Fixed income on the AM part.

Here are my results

This year’s AM was brutal. My average score is about 15 points lower than last year on the % scale.

They will not recheck your answers, they will just re-add the points.

Kill the PM next year, and you will be ok.

I did that too, leaving some space between sections of answers. In case I wanted to return to add some or fill in the answer. Sometimes leaving 60% of a page unfilled, only to continue the answer on the next page.

If there is 5 lined pages for answers, I would assume they look over all of the pages for answers?

Is that a non-approved way to write responses?

oops

This is my guess.

Here’s what you get back… " As requested, your June 2014 CFA® examination was manually retabulated to ensure that no errors were made in thescoring of your examination. Your examination was verified by candidate number and name and was carefully reviewed to ensure that each answer was graded and that the score was recorded correctly. The total score of your answer book and answer sheet was compared to your total score in the CFA Institute database. No errors were found and your original score remains unchanged. "

Did you pass this time round? Which band did you get lasy year?

I hope that my booklet was not switched somehow or pages lost.

I am really puzzled. I really studies for the exam this year and i did all CFA exams for the previous years and 90% of the samples.

I didn’t pass chizi… I’m clearly doing something wrong…This year I got band 7.

Is this they being very critical on am section or me completely missing the bus in terms of writing format etc? I very well remember first half of AM section I was going pretty solid. Hand writing is no issue for me.

The problem with AM is that there is no partial credit for the most part, they want a straight to the point answer it doesn’t matter how much you write if it’s wrong it’s wrong, no partial credits especially for low points quesitons.

If answers to questions have been wrongly written in spaces other than that provided for the questions for example, if question 3 was answered in the space for question 4 mistakenly and that continued till the end of the exam, Is there an appeal process that could rectify this? Given the description of the retabulation process, it is certain the zeros previously awarded for each question would just be re-computed.

Any thoughts?

How many years have you been into it? Got Band 10 today (my first attempt). I did poorly in the AM with all the sections that I was confident in below 50 (6 of the 11 sections were below 50), 3 between 50-70 and 2 >70.

I did well in the PM with >70 in all sections expect Ethics (below 50) and Equity (50-70).

Ever heard of anyone pass after a retab??

I’m already in the industry with a post-cfa job…so there really isn’t really a reason for me to be taking this exam, other than my pride in finishing it.

I’ve tried it two times and today I feel that’s enough. The CFA exam is an academic exercise and many of the questions/topics lack real relevance in the world of investing.

I just have to ask myself if I want to commit 2200 pages of moderately useful information to memory? For a silly test that probably won’t enhance my career that much. I already have a CPA, and MBA from top 25 school.

Do I really want to spend the next year of my life committing Type 1 and Type 2 errors to memory?

@Catalyst…But isn’t the lined paper just beyond the question vignette? Would you have to be drunk or something to be writing question 4 in the question 3 spot?

I’m kinda making a joke, because it seem so clear to me where the questions should be written.

But with that said, maybe I’m so off that I can’t see the forest for the trees.

Chizi…it’s kinda like asking a friend if you should get back with an ex girlfriend. You’re probably just going to do what you’re going to do regardless of their answer…LOL.

I think it’s unlikely that you’re score changes. But if you’re totally shocked…then you may do it for peace of mind. I did it last year for peace of mind.

The OP said he went from Band 9 to Band 6, NOT Band 1. The difference in points or number of questions is probably not big between bands.

It’s realy amazing how our profiles march… I am a Portfolio Manager with a leading investment bank; I am based in NY. I also want to finish it for my pride. I got stuck in L2 for 3 yrs all the time getting Bands 10s; that was after passing Level I with nine sections over 70. I finally aced L2 with all sections over 70. It seems my L2 demons have followed me to Level 3 and this is now killing me.

I am also a MBA holder from a top school. I am among the GMAT first time takers who scoored 720+ (my score was 720). I am a CPA as well as a CAIA.

Unlike youself, I think I will do it again and try to kill the h*** out it. I started the journey without kids and now I have two… this thing has been killing me slowly after having a flawless academic journey/life.

theres a thread around here in AF started in 2014 similar to OP…i think band 1 fail also and then wrote to CFAI and stuff…there was lot of suspicion that if ever someone was converted from a fail to a pass, then probably that candidate is made to sign apledge with cfai not to reveal anything…that thread was full of that guy cribbing about his fail and shock and what not and one fine day around the time when everyonegot back their retabs and were posting “no change”, this guy just vanished…never been seen on AF ever…so maybe fail-to-pass does happen but the lambs are silenced iykwim

Sorry, my mistake; it is a band 6.

The difference must be substantial, because last year, I had mixed results on the PM section and still got a band of 9 and this year i did much better on the PM section and got a band of 6.
