I just got my results and I was really surprised to get a FAIL with a band of 6. I am really suspicious of the results because it says that I got all morning sessions <50%, except Portfolio Management Individual 16 point 51-70%. This is so weird because I felt very confident after the AM section and I got a band of 9 on the last year exam. Something really wrong happened with my AM test. I did well on the PM session. Any ideas?
FWIW, probably would appeal if I saw those results in your circumstances.
I am also surprised. I saw 9 questions in the morning less than 50%.
I failed band 4.
I knew answers to all the questions in the morning.
My strength was morning. I do not know how can i get 9 questions less than 50%.
I do not understand what is expected in an answer.
from band 9 to band 1? and all except 1 topic in AM <50%?
is it possible you could have written on the wrong page?
Well, if i wrote on the wrong page it would be for one or two topics. This is really weird.
Could it be possible that you have really messy writing and were rushing a bit to the point they couldn’t read it? Seems strange to go from Band 9 to Band 1.
I too…nearly flatlined the morning section. Failed band 7.
I was really really really surprised by that.
i would recommend writing a letter to the CFA Institute before submitting for a retabulation. When submitting for a retabulation (which more ppl do than you think), they simply review and addup your scores… they do not double check your handwriting or the answers you submitted. I submitted a retab last yr…within 2 days i got an email saying my score is remaining the same. They somehow take 2 days to reply to random emails, yet only take 2 days to “retabulate” my exam results. So, I’d recommend writing a letter, then emailing a week later to ensure they rec’d your letter, then submit your retab.
bertran75 i got the same as you
i just fill in the retabulation form…
agree with M4tt30 i am thinking if my writing messy, but the answers were clearly written in paragraphs, so i think its fine, i knew the answer as well
its disastrous i took the fourth time …
He/she managed band 9 before … how worse could the writing be? Very strange - also, it is not like if you put answer in wrong area for 1 question, it gets messed up for whole bunch in sequene.
I really tried to control myself and write legitably at least for the first part of the AM session. Plus some of the questions required calculations and i really doubt that I did all of them wrong.
yeah … was wondering if you can write a letter to explain why you’re concerned. Going from Band 9 to Band 1 is very very strange.
Me too. I can’t believe I got <50% in mostly all AM sections. I am afraid I wrote in wrong section.
Does appeal help? Do they re-open the AM answer sheet?
3rd attempt. Failed Band 8 again. All PM scores above 70 except Low Ethics.
May be time time to say Bye to CFA!
unfortunately they do not review your answers and/or re-open your AM book to check your answers again… they simply go over the exam from an “addition/subtraction” standpoint, making sure all the points were added up correctly, etc. the “right or wrong” aspect of your questions will not change when they do a retabulation, which is why, some say, they hand grade each exam 2-3 times.
PS - i’ve also heard from someone connected with the CFAI and knowing a ton of test takers that he has never heard of an instance where a PASS/FAIL result has changed due to a retabulation.
it was a waste of $100 for me last yr, but then again, i guess it felt better just knowing for sure.

Retab only adds up the same numbers, to make sure they didn’t skip anything. I would write a letter as someone suggested - i guess you could say that you saw similar concern from others.
I’m not sure if it is possible to write in wrong sections for all these questions. Most questions had writing area right after the question - it would be very difficult to write in the wrong spot. Meaning there wasn’t space to write below the question, so you’ll automatically be forced to write in the correct spance (expect perhaps few that may have template deisng).
I have similar situation here and its boggling me. Band 6
AM - All below 50% except one
PM - 1 below 50%, 5 in 51-70% range and 3 >70%
How does reval work for essay section? Is this even worth?
I think they get an admin Type of person to pull the exam book and simply add the answer scores up again. There is no regrading of the exam booklet. They simply add up the scores that were already given by the graders.
It’ll probably be a waste of your $100, but then again it’s only $100.
I don’t understand…how is it possible to write the answers in the wrong space? What am I missing?
I passed, but I was surprised in some sections which I received under <50%. It happens that I separated my answers page by page, so I would write a vignette in one page and the next vignette in the next page leaving a big blank space in some cases. I am wondering it that may have something to do.
