It seems like a lot of people are doing it, but I am skeptical. I worked through about 60 questions from a BSAS exam from L1 last year and the questions weren’t very good in my opinion. My local society is also holding an exam this Saturday for $100. I believe they have some BSAS q’s & others that were created on their own.
I guess it’s all relative. Mocks last year from the CFAI were $100 each and only a half test. BSAS seemed not awful then. Mocks now are free. $100 is steep for 1 test. Is it a good test and does it I think on purpose try to ask some stuff that the other providers haven’t? Sure… but if you’re hurting for cash and you have the mocks, the CFAI samples, and maybe schweser or stalla, you don’t *need* BSAS. I would spend the $$ on the 2 CFAI samples > BSAS even though BSAS gives more questions. I think a lot of people at the end try to throw money at this exam, though, thinking there’s some magical way to pass. It’s all about the studying. Less about these tests. You could do end of chapter CFAI q’s and I’d say that time may be just as valuable.
^^ I second Banni’s comments above. When someone is desperate for pts, it becomes very easy to pull out the plastic card. The trick at the end is practicing and understanding where the mistakes were made, not just flying through questions -
